Halloween to New Years!- Next weigh-in: 11/8-9

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys! OK so, Im 5'2", 150 lbs (about, Ill have to weight myself tomorrow) and I'm going to a special event in early-mid January. I really want to feel good in a dress, so im looking to lose about 10 lbs within the next 2 months. I don't necessarily want to be skinny. I just want to feel good about myself and be happy with my weight.

With school, studying, and homework, its going to be hard, so Im hoping if others do this with me, we'll all be able to stay motivated. Plus, the holiday season is almost here and we all love the holidays but ugh, the food!

This isn't a challenge, and we're not competing, so choose a goal and aim for it! We'll help you along the way! If anyone has has great tips or recipes they would like to share, please do so!

Edit 11/2: So its official kick-off week! From now on, it all counts, so be careful with everything you put into your mouth. I recommend keeping a journal of all food, beverages, and exercise, thoughts as well. Many of us eat without being truly conscious of it; keeping a food diary is the only way to get a true idea of your food intake. Write the times, what you ate and the portion size, why you ate it (For example, "very hungry", "lunch with friends", "bored"- hopefully that doesn't happen  ), and your overall comment/comments at the end of the day. You can (should) include how you feel about the day, how you feel about your progress, what patterns you see, and what improvements can be made. You can always add/ take away  Ex. entry:

7:00 A.M: 1 cup of coffee, One slice whole-wheat toast with half-cup low-fat cottage cheese, 1 cup strawberries, half of Hershey's milk chocolate bar- breakfast time, need the energy for the day ahead, also hungry.

.......................

.......................

5:00 P.M: 25 minutes treadmill, 15 minutes elliptical, 10 minutes weight-training.

Comments: I think I did alright today. I might up my calories a little tomorrow, as I felt a lack of energy today. Next time, I really shouldn't go for that chocolate bar. But it's ok, there's always tomorrow! I will try harder to resist temptation. Also, I'm happy with my exercise!. However, I think I'm going to increase the inclination on the treadmill and go for 30 minutes next time.

Of course, its never going to be down to the exact calorie, but as long as you record the important points, you should do fine.

I'll join you.  I'm 5'5'' and roughly 125-130 lbs depending on the scale.  I am a runner and used to be closer to 117, my feel-good-weight.  I don't like how the extra weight feels in my knees and hips...not to even mention my cracking ankles.  I'm also in school.  I figure that if we have a plan...we can hopefully stick to it; it will be easier if we are held accountable to each other.  Maybe we could start with a few meal templates?

I'll join too.  I'm 5'5" and weighed in at 150 lbs on 10/25/09 same day as I joined this website.  My long-term goal weight is 125 lbs, but I will be happy to see 135 lbs again.  In the fall of 2008 I reached 150 lbs and worked hard to take of 10 lbs only to gain it all back this year due to long hours at work.  I'm 48 years old so it seems to not come off as quickly as when I was younger.

I used the website to log all my meals and plan what I would eat yesterday.  This was really a great help in keeping me in check.

I think I will benefit from the support of a group to make it through these holidays ahead.

Any day for weigh-in is good for me.

Hello!

i am 5'10" and 202 lbs. I have to go to a wedding in January so losing some weight for then would be great for me. My goal is to get to 180 by spring and like 165 long term.

the holidays are tough for me too. i can weigh in whenever

T

Hey!

I'm really excited about this and definetly need the support! I'm 5'4", 185 lbs and my ultimate goal is 135lbs, but I want to get down to at least 170lbs by the end of the year. Staying motivated is really difficult for me, but I am so excited about this group.

A

Hey there!I will join too!

I am 5' 2" and currently 160lbs. I definitely need the support and motivation, because I cant seem to get it anywhere else. Tongue out

I would like to lose at least 15lbs by Christmas, and don't think that's an unreasonable goal. My ultimate goal is to weigh 135 by my husband's birthday on April 11th.

I would also like to find some exercises that will get rid of my flabby belly. If anyone has any ideas, they are much appreciated LOL

Yes, I would like to join also. I am currently 5'5 and 132 pounds, and I want to be at around 118, just to feel better. My goal is to be this weight by Christmas! I can do it!

I would love to join. I am 5'5, 22, and weight 147ish. I have set a couple goals. The 1st is to be 142 by 11/20, next 136, by New Years, and finally 130 by Valentines. I think this will be a good group. I have done others before but they only post their weight, there is not much communication about exercise and food ideas.

Since nobody has suggested a weigh-in date how about the Monday after Halloween, 11/2/09 to 12/31/09? I like Monday weigh-ins because it keeps me motivated through the week and then knowing that I have to weigh Monday, I do better on the weekend.

Kpitts - I have been working on my abs and 1 that I really like is crunches holding a weighted ball or just a normal weight. What you do is lay on your back, knees bent, hold the weight or ball straight up while laying and crunch up keeping your arms and weight pointing straight up.

Sounds good. I will weigh in on 11/2/09, but I am starting today. Hopefully I lose a pound by then. =)

I'm from Australia so I believe I would be (converting cms-inches) 5'2, age 17 and weigh roughly 150 ish pounds.

I started dieting last week but looking for the motivation, and support. I agree with the monday way in, it stops me getting to the junk on weekends.

I'm travelling from Aust to the US for a cheer comp at the beginning of Feb so I want to look a good as possible for that. So fingers crossed, and I can't wait for the next weigh in!

Sound Good Its my birthday i January and i want to lost a tiny bit before christmas comes . Im 5'5 and im 142 lbs (roughly) im 65.50 kgs and 10 stone something soo yer ill join sounds good

Alina, Since you started this group, does Monday, 11/2 work as a good weigh-in date for you too?

Hey everyone! I hope all of you are doing well. Let's have our first "official" weigh-in Nov 1- Nov 2, like many of you have said. Weigh-ins will be every Sunday and Monday and you can chose which day is better for you. Feel free to copy and paste this form and just fill in your stats, but make sure you post a new form for each weigh-in,

iIt's great that we all picked goal and let's encourage each other to reach it.

icecream18- Kudos that you want to feel good and not just look good. Its great that you run too. You don't have to worrabout exercising as much as some others do (like me!)

arizona48- picking a short-term goal and a long-term goal will definetly help you along the way. Same thing happened to me. I lost it all only to gain it back. Hopefully, that's going to happen anytime soon.

tree0421- Same with me, I have an event to go to in January. I must slim down to look good in a dress. I read your goals on your bio and I think I'm going to try them out. Thanks!

adepasque- Staying motivated is very hard and I hope we help you reach your goal! Keep up the enthusiasm! kpitts925- You're right, it can be done ( I read your journal post if you don't mind) And it will be done.

pinkchopstickss-I think its great when we lose weight not just to look good but to feel good. I think tha'ts more important. And yes, you can do it, and you will!

foxxymel7- I hope you accomplish your mini-goals and your long-term goal. I read your goals and rewards are definetely great ways to stay motivated (I'm sure you know that already :)

claireabella92- my fingers are crossed for you! I hope you reach you goal and that we're able to help you.

hellokittydon- My birthday is in January too. We both have something to work towards!

Ok guys, like I said, focus on making gradual changes. Aim for goals that you know you will be able to maintain just weeks for a few weeks, but for months and even years. Also, how about instead of eliminating foods, try substituting them. If. for example, you can't live without tortilla chips, trying to eliminate them entirely from your diet won't work. Making the change to a lower-calorie reduced fat tortilla chips can make a noticeable change in total calories consumed over time. Drink more water and of course, move move move! I know I complain I don't have enough time, but Iet's all aim for 30-45 minutes  3-5 times per week. If all you can do is walk around the block twice before you go to bed, that's a good start. Anything is better than nothing! I know, I'm throwing all out too quickly but do what you can. You know you can do do it and you will do it. If you've lost weight before, you know you are capable. If you were able to do it before, you KNOW you can do it again now. It sometimes helps to imagine yourself skinnier, or prettier, or fitting into those size 6 jeans in the fitting room, or walking down the aisle with everyone in awe of how beautiful you look. Whatever it is that your hoping to get out of this, picture it in your head and really enjoy the experience.                                                          On Saturday or Sunday, I'll post some more tips to help get started/ continue. Actually, I have this great activity that really worked for me some while ago and I really want to share it with you guys. Well, I'll see you all on Sunday/Monday, I wish you all the best, and GOOD LUCK! This will be a worthwhile journey!

P.S. Sorry i'm replying so late, busy all week ( its almost 12:30 midnight right now!)

I'm looking forward to your suggestions...as the name unfortunately suggests, I can obsess over desserts (namely ice cream), believe it or not (I tend not to) I have it mainly under control now.  Just waiting for some pounds to slide off:)

Ice cream is my favorite dessert! I used to eat it every night and convince myself I was only eating 1/2 a cup (1 serving) but I had to be up front with myself and realize I was eating more like 2 - 2 1/2 servings per sitting. If I do eat ice cream, I try to measure it out or have someone else dish it, like my boyfriend because he is more reasonable then I am with the portion. Also, I found that Dreyers Slowly Churned Ice Cream tastes really good and the nutritional value is a little better then regular Ice Cream or Sherbert is a good substitute.

Good job on getting your Ice Cream habit under control, it is not an easy thing to do! What did you find that worked best for you?

Is it too late to be joining now?

I seriously need the motivation :')

5ft 1 and a half

120lbs

I'm really small framed and the GP says I should be at the lower end of my BMI so from about 105lbs to 110lbs.

So yeah- I'd love to join for the last leg of my weight loss and also afterwards to get stronger by New Year. I failed SO MUCH at the school's compulsory Judo day :') My partner floored me EVERY TIME. Motivation and advice on how best to strength train would be much loved. :)

I either use pre-portioned treats or I even make my own.  I use cool whip, no sugar added soy milk, cocoa powder, sucralose or real sugar, etc.  I have heard that you can freeze yogurt or pudding too...you are definitely right, the dreyers/edys/breyers taste terrific, but unless it is in a small container I may end up eating it all :(

Welcome girrirox! Weigh-in is today and tomorrow, every sunday and monday. Good luck!

And icecream18- congrats on keeping your cravings under control! Oh wow, that's very hard to do. Feels good though right?

Happy November everybody! How are you all doing? *sigh* Halloween wasn't that great (candy-wise). I have a lot of candy left over from the trick-or-treating bowl and from a Halloween party. So there's a large bowl of candy sitting on the kitchen table. Oh, Im going to try so hard to avoid making eye contact with it. How was your Halloween? Good job to those who minimized their candy consumption, and those who didn't, well, you're not alone!
