We go to Mickey D's at least once a week (not my favorite, but the kids want the toys and the playground and happy meals). The kids love it there, and that is something they will actually eat. I just don't believe the story. Got to be a hoax.

Gee, glad you're setting a good lifestyle for your kids :|

When we are there they play hard for two hours on the playground. They get nuggets, apples and milk. Thanks for judging me, though.

A few years ago I was guilty of taking my kids to McD once in a while for the same reason....they would play, eat the food and get a toy.  After a while it started to bother me.  I would try so hard to get them to eat at home, teach them about processed foods (we still eat some) etc...plus the toys they would get so excited about would last a few days then just clutter up my house.

I made a deal with them - no more McD's...if we want a special treat lunch we go to a local family owned pizza place for a slice and they split a drink, or we get Chinese (they love rice and appitizers).  We go to a local play ground instead of the filthy play structure at McD's and I allow them to spend $2 at the store or the like on a little treat or stickers.  SO much better than supporting McD's and also teaching my kids about local economy.

We DO go to McD's while we are traveling BUT only to use the restrooms! We have decided that McDonald's is just a chain of bathrooms that happen to also sell junky foods!!!

If this is really from 1996 - why is she using a wrapper & bag from 2008?  I think  McyD's is not all that great for you all the time, but it wouldn't kill once in a while to eat one in a hurry.

I love their Southwest chicken salad!

If you read the whole article she does explain why she used the '08 wrapper....she bought a "fresh" burger to compare to the old petrified one

i don't know about any of you, but i know as a kid, my family would eat fast food once a week on average and it was okay. just don't let ur kids get big macs, fries, and a drink. a happy meal is fine. nothing has changed from now compared to then except it is cheap to eat fast food compared to everything else and you are getting larger quantities today. kids will always be kids and u shouldn't have to defend yourself from others telling you that you're a bad parent for taking them there. if u do, then u prolly are a bad parent.

Direwolf: I ate a McDonalds meal for the first time in a long time back in May and it made me horribly sick. Just wasn't used to it at all. Gone are the days I could fit in the Play Area, and of the 99p Happy Meal... Heh.

I think that fast food once in a while is okay, and teaching kids that having fast food as a treat, not an every day thing and equally not something to completely bar, is a good thing to pass on. I am glad they put healthier options out - using McDonalds, still: apples and milk in the Happy Meals, salads that don't all seem to be calorific and so on.

Though just the idea of a 12 year old burger is icky, hoax or no hoax. The thought, and idea of keeping it that long... :s

Haha how funny XD  In China some people go to McDonald's just for the clean bathrooms too ;)

Yeah, that was really harsh. And majorly judgemental.  Please, jackattack07, try to be a bit more understanding.

When you grow up with child obesity, you tend to get a little edgy with parents who take their kids to fast food that often. There's no reason for it.

just cuz u were taken to fast food places everyday, ordered a big mac meal, and did no physical activity doesn't mean u can't eat at those places. Its all about control. The difference between the past and present is that fast food places are everywhere and its much easier than cooking aka people are lazy. oh yeah, its cheap. ridiculously cheap. can't beat those $1 double cheeseburgers

 All good points (:

Excuse me? Are you talking to ME?

That is really gross.  And I believe every word in that article.

That being said, I haven't had any fast food (except for some Taco Bell last Saturday night because it was late and I was drunk) in two full weeks.  Which is a huge deal for me.  The last time I was on a diet, I didn't do McDonald's for almost a month and then I had a Happy Meal because I was in a rush, and it tasted so gross to me.  But I'm not going to judge if someone takes their kids there for dinner, even once a week.   My mom was a single mom that worked full time and we did a ton of McDonald's, mac and cheese, hot dogs, Arby's....it was extremely rare that we actually got a real homecooked meal.  And *gasp* we didn't end up overweight, because we were also very involved in sports (hockey for my brother, and softball/soccer/figure skating for me).  I know that childhood obesity is a serious problem in our society, but I think a lot of that is the switch to the PSP, TiVO, internets childhood that so many kids experience today.
