I went to a pot luck party last night, and despite my best efforts to eat only the healthiest foods there, I went about 250 calories over my maintenance calories! (By my rough estimation of what was served and how much I ate). Normally I wouldn't freak out, I'd just try to balance it out with some extra exercise and water today.
But, there were also some vodka tonics involved. I woke up with an awful hangover (much worse than my 3 total drinks deserved!) Now all I want is comfort food and rich carbs to make me feel better. Any suggestions for low cal hangover nibbling?

Hangover Hunger is the worst! How about an egg white omelet w/ tons of veggies and mozzarella cheese. That usually does it for me, comfort food but yet low cal and very filling! Good Luck! Drink lots of water today too!
I don't have the hangover munchies, but I've definitely got next-day cotton mouth. You know you've lost weight when you only drink half of what you used to and have a semi-hang over :-P
Been there....lots. Drink lots of water and eat a banana and take a couple asprin...that always helps me out! Cheers! :)
well... it has calories, but MY best hangover cure is a gatorade... if you mix 2 servings (50 cals each) with some water, and eat a banana, and maybe some dry toast. its a great hangover fix for about 300 cals. it gets you carbs and electrolytes... i was reading a thing that said the worst thing to do is actually to eat a lot of fat and grease because then your body has a slower time releasing the toxins from the alcohol. feel better! (vodka always does me in too!)
Oh, I definitely have my Vitamin waters and Poland Spring bottles lined up on my desk... but I'd give my left arm for a grilled cheddar cheese and tomato and Sunchips on the side. Or a bagel with lots and lots of cream cheese. Or pizza. Or french toast. Or all of those at once. Mmmmm.
Thanks for the advice all. And checkmeout, that is a wonderful suggestion, exactly the sort of food I'm craving, I'll have to make that for dinner.

I have a recipe that I use for hangovers and it ALWAYS works:
1 boiled egg, 1 Glass of Tropicana orange juice, 1/2 banana, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with a little maragine and a slice of mozarella cheese. Very filling and gets rid of the hangover. Combine with a light lunch and VOila!

I tried the gatorade thing...never seemed to work. The one night I had a personal party and got TRASHED and the whole next morning I kept drinking gatorade...didn't make me feel any better. Maybe it was thinking about the mess I had to clean up when I got home that made me feel like crap :-P
Just drink another beer. The lesser alcohol acts as a weening agent.
Trust me, these guys in my dorms are masters at this thing... ;)

i always crave grease for a hangover--- sunday's hangover meal was a small hamburger and small fry from mickey d's.... but i really wanted eggs and hashbrowns and bacon....
you can make light versions of what you are craving-- good bread and 2% cheese slices makes great grill cheese--- for about 150 cals.
dont drink more, that just perpetuates the cycle, you will feel better for a bit and then worse later.
**good luck** and um drinking on a tuesday night?! why wasnt I invited? :-p

Ok, I just learned about this in anatomy. Alcohol actually inhibits the antidiuretic hormone in your system making your body dump water into your bladder... thus the mad pee spree you go on when you drink.
You need to rehydrate... water water water. Now I have recently learned a trick for hangover symptoms. MIDOL! Who woulda thunk it? Not sure of the science behind it but has something do with some of the reasons women feel crappy around that time of the month, water retention, etc. Anyway- it works! I even have my fiance trying (big burly trucker type dude!) and he says it works for him.
I say, go for carbs if that's what you are craving but choose some good ones.

dawn, i i was JUST going to come back here and suggest the midol. works for me too! and i'm such a "lightweight" (in the sense that i get drunk easily) that i'm hungover a ton, even after having like 2 beers. i HEART midol.
When I'm hungover, the only symptom I ever really have is the need to eat fat and carbs constantly. And some mild ache.
If you guys are looking for a hangover cure, there usually isn't one, just things that help a little. The only thing to do is prevent them by taking vitamin B before bed, or at the beginning of the night if you want to stay up for a while. It turns the alcohol into energy. Too bad I didn't think to take one last night!

I have the hangover munchies right now. Damnit.
I have already had 700 caloris and its only 11am.
I'm going to have a really light lunch, so I figure its ok.
OW - my head - mostly my eyes hurt. Alcohol is not my friend - Beer, wine and vodkas were consumed.
HELP x

When I know I will be drinking my fair share, just before I lay down for the night, or early morning :-), I slam 2-3 glasses of water. This usually keeps me from getting any hang over. I myself drink Jack Daniels and diet, so that may have something to do with it. I lost the taste for beer.
I've only been hung over twice and I hope to never repeat the experience. Ugh. The first one was beyond help but the second one I felt better after I had McDs and some baking soda and water. The baking soda and water is nasty as all heck, but it gets rid of the acid stomach feeling. After that, I was just completely exhausted for a couple of days. Only one or two for me from now on!
An article I read said that no one's completely sure why we get hangovers and none of the "remedies" work reliably. A big part of them is the placebo effect, it seems. If you really believe it will work, then it will. Oh, and I've heard Wolf's suggestion before, actually. From my dad. His version was a shot of something and as much water as you can drink since the hangover is partially withdrawls and partially dehydration. I'm all for prevention by moderation, personally.

I havent been hung over since Halloween, next time I drink I am gonna try the vitamin b thing (if I remember) and midol.. I tried the gatorade thing, that didnt work for me but what had worked on occasion was taking 2 Tylenol and a nice large glass of water before bed..
I used to love getting iced capps as my hangover cure, now I can still get them but with milk..
What about a sub from Subway? Still healthy and damn good..
