hey i was wondering if any of you guys has effective and filling hangover recommendation... because when im hangover i just feel like eating a ton of the greasiest food all day long and i can actually gain all the weight that i loose durning the week... which pisses me off.
by the way... not drinking in the first pla ce is not an option ; )
i too get the greasy hangover craving after a good night of fun. if there was no such thing as a calorie, or unhealthy food for that matter, there is no better hangover cure than a Denny's breakfast, taco bell lunch, and nice burger and fries for dinner!!!
sorry.....didn't mean to make anyone drool!!!
instead of the above (because, yes, it just ruins the good work that you have done all week), i have found that soup (especially this time of year) really cures my hangover. it warms my belly and fills me up! and i LOVE the new Progresso light soups that have less than 100 calories a serving and are filled with flavor! throw in a nice piece of bread if you are feeling daring, and you will feel satisfied and cured in no time!
and, yes, not drinking is not an option!
Well, I agree with the soup and bread option - you need to replenish some nutrients without going overboard on cals. An egg and veggie omelette with some toast and orange juice would be a good option too.
However, I gotta ask: WHY is not drinking so much that you get a hangover "not an option"? A few drinks, sure, you want to have fun - but why so many that you have a hangover the next day?
I mean, aside from the (IMHO poor) idea of drinking just to get smashed, if you're so concerned about the calories after you drink, why aren't you concerned about them while you're drinking? All it takes is 3 martinis (or 3-4 regular beers, or 2 margaritas, or 3 manhattans, etc.) to equate to the calories in a serving of french fries, but you're worried more about the french fries?
Just curious...
You can get drunk and have fun without getting wasted and getting a hangover.
well of course i take the calories in the drinks into account. so for example say that im going to the bar with my friends after my last final exam. i know im going to celebrate because ive been working hard all semester, so yeah im going to get trashed. so on that day i will have fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch which will leave me with 1000 calories to drink, wich is like 2 beers and 6 vodkas with sprite 0 these will leave me with no calories left for that day/nite, then the morning 1am and so on i can have like 4 shots of tequila or whatever which is like 300 calories then i go to bed and by the time i wake up hopefuly after 12 i have like 800 calories to cure my hangover ... but hey... non judgment zone... lol
Not trying to be judgemental, but I gotta say, that does not sound healthy at all. The day of your celebration, the majority of your calories, literally, are empty ones, completely devoid of nutrition. You might consider that one of the reasons why you got a hangover was the amount of alcohol combined with the lack of adequate sustenance for the day.
Look, I liked to party after exams as well (I was a master bat racer in my day, and turned quarters into an art form), but even I knew that I needed some food in my system if I wanted to avoid feeling like crap the next day. There's nothing wrong with partying, but it's in you and your body's best interests to party smart.
On edit: The best way to beat a hangover is to prevent one.
Drinking on nothing but fruit and salad? Terrible idea, and only intensifies the hangover the next day.
well, i've definitely toned down my drinking in the last few years, but i gotta admit that i'll get a mild hangover (usually just a headache) even after 2 or 3 beers. i realize this is unusual, but it still happens.
drinking lots of vitamin c before, during, and after you drink helps...
as for food, my favorite college hang over food was a big bowl of whole wheat penne, with a little butter and salt. not the healthiest, but it could be worse.
I would also stop mixing drinks. Pick one thing and stick to it. the quickest way to feel like crap is to mix drinks. Start drinking water already around midnight. When you get a drink at the bar get some water too. Then drink a litre of water when you get home.
I've heard bread helps absorb alcohol, but I can gladly say I've never had to try that- I couldn't stand more than a sip, and certainly not enough to get drunk.
I got wasted 1 time (first time drinking :p) and that was enough for me to not do it again lol, now I just like a good buzz...so it's hard for me to understand why people like doing that on purpose.
but anyway I would use your celebration day like a free day (as if it was a holiday or birthday etc), don't worry about the calories going over (within reason) its ok now and then, so at least have a good meal before going out drinking.
can't help with what to do for a current hangover, never had one :p
Seriously I find that a sports drink is usually pretty good to help rehydrate you and increase your blood sugar as a hangover is caused by dehydration and low blood sugar. And eating a banana will help as well. Failing that retire to bed and sleep for the rest of the day
no joke, try this cure. either before bed or when you wake up in the morning with a hangover.
steep 5-6 bay leaves in hot water for three minutes...inhale the vapors first for a couple minutes. then sip slowly...drink the whole thing.
you'll be hangover free in no time. gets rid of headaches, vertigo, upset stomach, all of it.
it's a sicilian thing. works.
I think the british have quiet a different attitude to drinking!! And i dont want any holier than thou replies of ''just don't get drunk''.
I love going out and having some drinks..in fact i just had an entire weekend of it. I don't often get hungover and i do then just deal with it its not permanant...
As for cures and best things to eat its different for everyone..someone suggested cereal because of the milk..to me the thought of milk would make me chunder. Im not a big fan of the grease either..i crave sugar when im hungover.
to my mind if you have a headache its the dehydration. drink lots of water!
if you feel sick, be sick it will make you feel alot better
if you feel queasy just eat some nice plain and sensible food...whole meal toast for example?
"too will purposely not eat on days that i know i'm gonna be drinking a
lot, not only cuz i now that alcohol equals a lot of calories but also
cuz i get drunk faster lol."
thats the worst comment i've seen in this thread by the way...not eating to compensate for the calories is just silly and realy really bad for you. you might be saving on calories but you'lljust damage your liver?!
I think its important to relax and have days when your not thinking of what your eating ALL THE TIME! if you really wanna compensate then just have healthier choices...if you really have to count alcohol calories then just have vodka diet cokes or red wine?!
