Does this happen to anyone else???
OK so last month was my first month on NuvaRing - the first time I've EVER been able to go a whole month on ANY kind of birth control - for amenorrhea treatment. Day 16 or 17 of my cycle, I started getting really, really, really, really, really hungry, so hungry, FEEEEEED MEEEEEEE hungry, but I attributed it to being at the beach... but still, I was so abnormally hungry. I took the NuvaRing out, was STILL hungry, then got my period and wasn't hungry anymore.
MONTH TWO, day 17 of my cycle, HOLY BUCKETS OF JUNK I wish the world was made out of kettle corn so I could eat it, I'm starving.
Is this normal even though I'm on hormonal BC for a period????
I don't want to eat apples either. I want kettle corn and chocolate cake and pizza.
Changes in hormones (which is what the Nuvaring are causing) can cause increases or decreases in appetite, for sure. Since it seems cyclical, I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to your BC.
The nuvaring is 21 days on, 7 days off correct?
You're on day 17, which means period should start in 5 days or less? More than likely it's related to that.
I'm on the nuvaring as well, and about 3-4 days before my period, I CAN EAT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.
That's just how I am, but this happens when off the nuvaring too, just not as bad.
so any hormonal imbalance can lead to an increase in appetite??
I'm the same way as nasuoni, during the last few days before I start my period I do get pretty ravenous. I've not had a problem with the nuvaring since I started a year ago, and seeing as the nuvaring is a constant dose of hormones I don't know if I would attribute the cravings completely to the ring. It might be that your body is still just adjusting to the new prescription~give it a couple months & I'm sure it'll level off. ![]()
For safina1: Any hormonal imbalance can affect appetite, but it can be either a decrease or increase, depending on the hormones involved.
Even before I was on nuvaring, and still gettin gmy periods naturally a few days before I started bleeding I would eat SOOOOO much. I get insatiably hungry. It's ridiculous!
"Menstrual cycle can make as much as a 359-calorie difference (the low point is 1 week before ovulation, and the high point just before the onset of menstruation)"
Cited here...near the bottom, listed under "What factors affect metabolic rate?"
Even though you are on birth control your body still has a little bit of a natural hormonal cycle. Not enough to make you ovulate but it doesn't completely elemenate your natural cycle either.
Sounds like me- I'm ravenous around ovulation and won't eat a damn thing on my period. So it sounds like your getting a tiny natural spike that causes hunger to rise. Normal. :)
Is there any chance my body is like... RESPONDING to the hormones, maybe working with them? I've never been successful in taking BC before because the pills always made me so sick. I love the ring!
