Should This Happen?
well... im 48, 5'7", wasssssss 263 and i Upped my calories this past Saturday to 1800 to be closer to my BMR and i dont know why but today i weighed myself and im now 267.5... SHOULD THIS HAPPEN??? might i Gain Weight before i start to lose? can someone explain this to me? thanks!
It will take some amount of time (depends on how long you've been under-eating) before your metabolism will fix itself.
maybe i forgot to add this part in on my 1st post..... SINCE THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST I HAD BEEN EATING ONLY 1500 CALORIES A DAY UNTIL THIS PAST SATURDAY... AND AFTER READING & ASKING QUESTIONS HERE I UPPED IT TO 1800... could that be a part of it??? AND i am DEFINITELY Peri Menopausal...
you know... on This Site in the TOOLS section under CALORIE TARGET it tells me that i should be eating 1595 Calories if i want to lose 63 lbs by September 10th 2009 - thats a Whole Year away... Is This Site Correct? or do you think i should keep up with my BMR which is 1858...? im really confused.....
I entered your height of 5'7", weight of 263 and age 48 in the BMI tool. I chose sedentary for your activity level because I didn't know for sure. The result is that you burn 2200 cal per day with just doing normal living activities. If you subtract 500 from that the result is 1700 cal. This is what you should be eating in order to lose about 1.5 per week. That is a reasonable, sustainable rate for weight loss. If you try to do more than that you run the risk of starving yourself and that is when lapses happen. At that rate you will lose 78 lbs. in 52 weeks. Believe me. The slow rate of loss is the way to go and is more likely to result in weight loss that will stay off for good. You are working on a lifestyle change. Not just a diet that will end in a few months.
I was just going to say the same thing...1700cals to lose weight IF you are totally sedentary....However, if you're doing exercise, you need to account for the cals you burn there, you need enough fuel to exercise. You should chose exercise over eating less because exercise increases tone and muscle mass and the more muscle you have, to more calories your body will burn!
I'm sure the gain is temporary while your body gets used to the change. Good luck!

So you gave it a whole 4 days huh? Let me ask you this. How many calories in a pound of fat? That's right 3500. So, this being the case, do you really think that you gained 4 1/2 pounds of fat by eating 300 calories more than you were a day? Let's do the math. 3500 x 4.5 = 15,750 calories. You ate 1200 extra compared to what you were eating. Is it fat? No. It is water weight. My weight fluctuates by at least 5 pounds a day depending on when I weigh myself. If you can't take the daily fluctuations in water weight, then you shouldn't weigh yourself daily. If you really feel the need to weigh in daily, then use the weight log on this sight. Weigh yourself, log it in, and then immediately forget it. It is virtually useless. The trend is what matters. If you want an explanation of why you should track your trend and not rely on your daily weight, then go here http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/ I think he explains it pretty well.
You should always eat your BMR, which automatically creates a deficit for you because your BMR is less than your RMR (daily burn) unless you are in a coma. If you want to increase your deficit, then increase your exercise.
