today i weighed myself and i lost 4 pounds this week. i was so excited i start thinking of ways to reward myself. all i can come up with is having hot chocolate. i love hot chocolate and i normally don't drink it cause it has calories.
anyway, i had 1 cup of hot chocolate. lunch time comes around and i get a combo meal which i don't ever do. after lunch i get a milky way bar.
currently im over my recommended calories for the day and i haven't even ate dinner yet. strangely enough im not frustrated, sad or anything that way. as a matter of fact when i get home after work i want to make myself a huge bowl of popcorn.
this seems to be a pattern for me every time i lose weight. i let myself have a huge cheat day early in the week and then the next 6 days i do really well.
i try not to reward myself with food but nothing else seems as appealing i guess.
does this happen to any of you?
Yes. Even if I don't see or think of it as rewarding myself, I will go 'but I've lost so and so many pounds, one candy bar isn't going to make a difference' and oops, there I go, down the rabbit hole of food.
This is why I need to stop weighing myself often - but then, if I don't weigh myself often enough, I find it kills my motivation for I've yet to find a substitute for tracking my progress in a way that keeps me inspired to continue. I love being able to record my weight and see the line going steadily downwards.
This happened to me when I started my diet but then my body adjusted to having less calories and lower fat and I didn't want as much to eat. To deal with these cravings I found lower calorie, healthy substitutes. I recommend that you go to www.hungry-girl.com . Sign up for their daily free emails---they'll give you good tasting substitutes. Also, click on their "Chew the Right Thing" for archived ideas. There's lots of lower calorie chocolate products that taste good including hot chocolate. Top with fat-free Redi-Whip. Breyer's Double Churn Chocolate Ice Cream low fat, 110 calories for 1/2 packed cup. There's low cal bread substitutes that taste good. Lunch meats generally have lower calories. Popchips instead of Potato Chips. Lower calorie popcorn (100 calories).
Imagine yourself at a smaller size. Its worth working for and worth giving up some foods to be slim and healthy. That's what's kept be on-track. I really want to be slim and look and feel better and establish life-long healthy eating habits.
When I used to have donut cravings I ordered from www.holeydonuts.net . They make absolutely delicious lower calorie, lower fat donuts that deliver to your door though you have to keep them in a freezer to be fresh.
Vitalicious Vitamuffins in chocolate and all sorts of flavors. These are good and carried by grocery stores (natural food section, freezer in Giant Eagle stores). Warm these in the microwave, yum!!
Good luck.
