This morning I woke up and weighed myself at 146.6, when the whole weekend and yesterday I was 144. I have been working out a lot and yesterday I took a break but still did Ab Ripper X on P90 tape, but I gained 2.6 lbs? That is frusterating. Then today, I feel like I can't stop snacking. I am going to Vegas tomorrow and I was so excited to be 144, thinking that I would maintain that through at least arriving in Vegas. I am going to the gym tonight and doing a class, and I am going to only eat 1200 calories. Hopefully tomorrow morning I will be down from 146. I was so confident this weekend that I went to Nordstrom and spent WAY TOO MUCH on new clothes that are smaller and now I am scared to death to try them on. Any advice or suggestions on how to keep the weight from bouncing back, especially so quickly would be very helpful!

Calm down.... First, if you're going to daily weigh never be surprised at gaining or losing 2 or 3lbs for no apparent reason.  It happens, you need to be prepared for that and not let it freak you.  Second.... never compensate with starvation (1200 cals) and overexercising because that will guarantee bingeing in Vegas. And finally 2lbs won't make one iota of difference to how your clothes fit.  Keep a sense of perspective.

If you weigh daily, them maybe try using the "trend line" on the weight logging page as an indicator rather than day-to-day weight.  For me, my weight fluctuates so much its hard to tell if I'm losing any weight.    But if I look at the trendline and its gradually getting lower, I know my weight is "directionally correct" so I don't worry!

It is very true.  If you weigh yourself every day you will start going mad. This week the same happened to me.  It is usually weight from water retention.  However if you just lower slightly your carbohydrate intake, (never cut it down completely) you will immediately notioce that extra amount goes down immediately.

You are right! I do go "mad" when I weight myself daily. It is kind of like an addiction. Sometimes I wish my boyfriend would just hide the scale from me. I did pretty good in Vegas though. I didn't really gain anything, and I ate freely. I am sure all that walking did me good.

I have another question. I was told to stop lifting weights in order to loose weight. Is this correct? My typical workout is like this: 30 mins of treadmill or elliptical, then 30 mins of moderate to vigourous weights (either upper, lower, or abs), and last 30 mins of stairmaster. I am thinking of trying to cut out weights for a month and do 1 to 1 1/2 hours of only cardio. Does anyone of any advice?

First of all, it's LOSE, not "loose".   (Sorry - that's a pet peeve of mine. Smile)

As far as stopping lifting in order to lose weight, huh?  Unless you are a serious bodybuilder, your lifting is not going to seriously affect your weight.  Besides, why the heck would you want to NOT have muscle?  You want to lose FAT, not MUSCLE, right?  When your body burns fat by having a calorie deficit, there is also a corresponding loss of muscle tissue.  You have to counteract that by doing strength training.  So, no.  Do NOT stop.  Whoever told you that is an idiot.

Totally what she said.  Muscle ftw (for the win)!

I just use the scale at the gym.  Having one at home is bad for the ole brainwaves, I find.  Out of sight, out of mind.  I weigh myself once a week.

That was an excellent article. Thank you very much! It is helpful for me to understand that there are many factors that come into play with the number on the scale.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am not going to lose the weight lifting now that I have received some 2nd opinions. I enjoy lifting, it makes me feel stronger and I like that the muscle is becoming more defined.
