ok ya'll!! can someone please help me out with this!! i know there's some good advice out there!!

i've been working out really well for the last 3 months or so and the weight has been steadily coming off....up until this week...the scale just wont budge!!! i think i've hit the dreaded plateau!!

i work out about 6 days a week doing cardio and lifting 15 pound weights about every other day or so. I do the eliptical each time, but i always try to switch up which program i do. for instance, i will do teh cross trainer one day and then do the interval one and then do the glute workout and so on....u get the point....i dont just half ass it either! i have the resistance change up from about 7 to 12 and i sweat A LOT!! it's a good work out!! for the weights i use two 15 pound weights and work out my arms and legs and do some ab work! i've lost about 15 pounds and i'm tryin to get down to lose 20 lbs. i know it's the 5 last pounds that are the hardest to lose too.

oh and im eating about 1200 cals a day, which it working fine. i'm not starving or hungry. i eat small meals every 3 hours, which include lean meats, protein, veggies, and fruit. p.s. i think i've finally kicked my super sweet tooth!!!

can someone give me some ideas to get over this plateau?? i would appreciate any advice....

oh yeah, and i'm not a big runner, esp on a treadmill. i feel way too self conscious and i'm banging around on it and it's all loud...it's just too much haha!! my thing is that i feel the eliptical just burns more calories for the amount of time and it puts a lot less pressure on my knees (i broke my leg a while ago and it gets sore).

ok sorry this got to be super long!!!!

First off, how long has the scale been stagnant?

ITs not considered a plateau until the scales have been stuck for a couple of weeks.

There are a couple of things you can do to help get past a plateau:

Take a cheat day

Zig Zag calories

Eat at maintenance or above for a few days

CHange up your exercise routine, it may be time to get off the elliptical and on the bike or somethings else.

Also, you need to be sure your eating enough to fuel your workouts. THis can be counterproductive.

Im sure someone else will have more for ya.

Good job on the 15lb loss!!

anyone??

ya'll are right. i guess it's only been fluctuating around 135 for about a week now. maybe i will give it some more time and keep working at it!

The advice above is all really good. I also agree that a plateau isn't a plateau until it's been going on for about 2 weeks or more.

I would just keep encouraging you to keep going. Accept that plateau's happen. It's your body fighting against starvation mode. Press on and it will break. It's mostly a hard, hard mental time. But don't give up!

One thing that really worked to break my 3-week streak of being 136 to 138, was to calorie shift. I, too, eat 1200 a day. I would eat 950 one day and 1500-1700 the next day. I just made sure that I was not too much above the weekly 8,400 allowance). That, combined with a big change in working out should help your body push past the plateau faster. You might try doing circuit training, or a class, or anything different.  Your body has probably adjusted to the cardio and weight training the way you are doing it-  even when you "vary" the intensity. You might need a whole new activity at least temporarily.

Good luck- you've done great so far. Don't let a little plateau do you in.

Yeah, I have been going up and down 3 pounds for 5 weeks. That is a plateau.

I walk 2 to 3 miles almost everyday, and I am working a second job where I stand 5 hours on concrete at night. I've cheated, changed how many miles I walk, stopped exercising for a few days, and still can't get past mine.
