I was just wondering what happens to your body when you don't eat. I eat plenty of food, but have always wondered what happens to your body when you don't eat.

Are you referring to Anorexia or just going a day or two without eating (fasting)?

Anorexia
Same thing that happens to a hamster in a cage that you stop feeding. What do you honestly think happens?
I was just wondering what your body does when it doesn't receive food. I wasn't planning on going anorexic or starving myself.
well , honestly your body burns away any reserves, and then goes into muscle tissue. eventually your body will burn so much muscle/organs and simply die.

pretty nasty way to die, you can slowly shut down.
OK, I can tell you from personal experience...DONT! I was 19 years old, and weighed almost 300 lbs. I moved in with a family that was skinny and they were always commenting on how fat I was and how I ate too much. I just STOPPED EATING ALTOGETHER, and no one said ANYTHING. In about 6 months, I had NO fat on my body whatsoever because my body burned it all. I was getting NO nutrients or energy from food. I was constantly tired, and had no energy. I did consume calories, but they were all in soda, juices, and sports drinks.

I know this sounds nasty, but I literally stopped pooping because my body had no waste to dispose of. Trust me, you DONT want to try this.
What evaecho is describing is true anorexia.  That's not fasting, that's putting your body into total distress.

Fasting is NOT restriction of calories and then ruining your liver with soda and sports drinks.  If you were trying to fast and you felt tired all the time, then you did it wrong.

Fasting is not anorexia.  Fasting is a healing process.  Anorexia is self-destruction.

As for the original question, I'm not sure what it's really asking.  What happens when you don't eat?  or what happens when you stop ingesting calories?  Are you asking what happens when you stop eating for a day?  a few days?  a couple of weeks?  months?  There's a huge difference between all of these things.

I can tell you one thing, all of you have fasted.  It's called the time between dinner and breakfast.
Long term? click here - The Body Neglected   Does that answer your question?

If you're talking about short term, nothing much happens except you may feel weak and, especially if you get dehydrated, dizzy.
A person can do without water for 3 days and without any kind of nutrient for 3 months. That goes for a normal weight person. Of course starving oneself is useless, teenagers do that sometimes, but for a grownup it's very problematic, because adults usually have to go to work and there can be no work if there is no energy.

I was thinking the same thing..

in short, you die a horrible painful death. and quicker than you would think.

bethting...that is an eating disorder and not something to be bragging about!!There are many people here who are recovered/have recovered and this is very triggering.

If you think it's harmless, just search around this site and see some of the testimonials from those recovered from eating disorders/still struggling. It's not glamorous.
