Happy Canada Day!!

Food is only one of many reasons I'm proud to be Candian, so here are a few in lieu of our National day of celebration:

The maple syrup that is tapped from the trees on my family's land.

Scallops from the Bay of Fundy

Lobster from Fisherman's warf

Chesses Fish and Chips, cod cheeks, and Screech

Blueberry coffee cake from blueberries grown on NS land

Sticky buns from Alma, NB

Acadian Rappie Pie and Tourtiere Pie

Peas Pudding

Potatoes sold on an unmanned stand in PEI

Dulse

Poutine - I know, cliche... but it's true

Ontario produced back bacon and wine from Niagra region

Bison from Alberta

Walleye from Saskatchewan

Bannock from across the country - so many variations

BC wild salmon

Oh... I could go on ... it's late. Happy Birthday, Canada!

WAIT WAIT WAIT.... there are so many more!

Cow's Icecream, beavertails, KD, Donairs, bagels from Montreal, Nanamimo bars, Butter tarts, BEER!, Hot totty, maple butter/sugar/cream... yeah there are so much more!

Beavertails! And yes definetly poutine! Oh how I miss poutine...

And maple syrup candy poured fresh on the snow...  And also the chocolate bars... coffee crisp and aero... mint aero mmm. And it seems that the peanut butter cups in the US usually come with only 2 cups per package... so sad lol.

Oh and I second the montreal bagels mmmm and TIMMIES! Apple gritters and timbits and steeped tea. I hate how when I go to florida I have to remember to order "hot tea" or else I end up with unsweetened cold tea.

Firstly, Happy Canada Day to all you Canadians!  I am American, but travel to Canada from time to time and also have Canadian friends that hook me up with goodies you can only get in your lovely country.

Love poutine, Timmy Ho Ho's Tim bits and sandwiches, Kraft Peanut Butter (love it love it love it, cannot get it in US!!), Aero bars, potato chips my friend gets me that have all sorts of flavors in one, I forget what they call them, maybe you can help me out...everything chips?  Trash chips?  And ketchup chips are good, too, but I don't like Canadian ketchup itself (too sweet, not tangy enough).  It really is different than US ketchup.  And of course gotta love Canadian beer!Laughing

Edit: I am curious, what are beavertails?  Is this something I need to try on my next trip?  Is it a regional or national thing?

Beavertails = fried dough with sweet toppings like powdered sugar & nutella. I think they're also called Elephant Ears in some places.

As someone who loves to cook, I'd really love to hear people's favorite homemade dishes (from childhood, or one's they've made their own tradition). As a multicultural country, there's bound to be some interesting ones!

It would also be great to know where people are from, and any "famous" dishes from there.

Woooo Canadians! Are you all going to check out some fireworks tonight??

Fav Canadian food is DEFFINITELY our abundant salmon, but you guys mentioned some great ones: montreal bagels, timmy hos, COWS ICE CREAM, and so many others.

Oh, and it might amuse you all to know that there was a topic a little while ago where everyone had to list their favourite places to get certain foods (burgers, fries, etc) and no one knew what poutine was. I had no idea that poutine was so exclusively Canadian!

This is tough.  Everything's been covered

Except

-Viande fumee sandwich and giant strawberry cheesecake for dessert.

-PEI steamed mussels.

-Smokies in Wienerpeg.  With a Goog sundae for dessert.

-Maple sugar pie.

-Pickles packed in mustard.

-Grapenuts ice cream.

-KFC (PFK in Quebec) chicken with the traditional loaf of white bread.

-A beavertail and poutine while out skating the Rideau.  Wish I had a river I could skate away on right now.

Happy Canada Day y'all.

Don't forget the Sherpherd's Pie form Quebec!

Nanaimo Bars!

Nanaimo bars and poutine! They're called all-dressed chips, melicious. Those are Canadian? They're my favourite kind so I'll add that to the list too. Also I don't know if they're actually Canadian, but I know they don't have smarties in the US. They're way better than m&m's. Oh, and I can't forget my favourite drink... Caesar's!

Anything by KRAFT, I have a factory up the road from my work and they have cookies and crackers on sales ALL DAY EVERY DAY.  Love my maple cookies...and ketchup chips (don't think U.S. has ketchup chips)  Americans are missin' out.

Dear lord, we forgot the COD!
