Hi to all you fellow left handers.  It's our official day - so wave your left handed scissors in the air (holding them by the points of course - safety first) and celebrate your left handedness.

How many of you lefties are out there?

Just curious to know if any of you have found any problems or advantages in being left handed.

Personally I have never had any major problems with dealing with right handed items, just minor inconvenience - I just adapt.  Sometimes I must look awkward to others because I get the comments of being a 'cack hander', but I am fine and totally in control.

*waves scissors in excitement* hehe!

Being a lefty is hit and miss, it took me forever to learn how to open a can of baked beans because we didnt have a lefty opener, and it took me ages to learn to use the mouse on a computer because of dexterity. HOWEVER!!! i can take notes with my left hand whilst doing computer based lectures/use a tablet and a mouse at the same time which is important for my career (artist) i can cut with both hands if my arms get tired, and i used to get all the way round to fourth base in rounders every time 'cos teams aren't used to left handers lol!!!

I'm a lefty *we are the chosen ones* Laughing

I'm older so I did have problems when I was young because lefty things cost a fortune. I was so happy the day the brought in the double sided blade. I still don't have anything lefty, but now I just find a way around it.

I haven't had any problems in being a lefty.

I embrace my lefty-ness =D

It's weird, my best friend is a lefty, too...so I guess lefties stick together xD

being left handed is basically the best. sure certain kitchen implements and cutting cloth (argh it just never works) give us a rough time, but only around 10% of the world is kooky handed, so hooray!

I'm a righty but my sister is a lefty and so was my grandpa. I remember a girl in school doing her speech about being a lefty, one thing that annoyed her particularly was notebook binders. Personally I wish I was ambidextrous :P

In our household lefties rule!   My wife and I are left handed and our daughter is the odd one out. Smile

In my wife's immediate family 3 out of 5 are left handed.

Its great to be in the majority sometimes.

Hello my left handed friends!! I'm left handed and so is my mom so I was mega spoiled growing up. Lefty scissors, can openers, notebooks, the works.

I'd say the only hardship I've had is finding a lefty desk in a classroom. In college any stadium seating lecture hall had just that left isle seat with the left side fold up 'desk' and in regular classrooms they always had just one lefty desk stuck in the way back corner. But whatever, all it took was kicking a righty out of the desk and hoisting up that chair to wherever I wanted it. The right handers always gave me nasty looks but I never understood why they wanted to sit in a lefty desk anyways? I think my fav was taking two righty desks for myself (sit in one and use the desk part of the one to my left). If you're not going to give me a lefty desk I'm making one for myself!

I'm left handed!

I don't mind it too much but there are a couple of things that bother me. If I have to deposit or cash a check I always go inside because I usually don't have a pen with me.  The bank I go to now has all their pens chained up and the chains aren't long enough for me to use with my left hand.  It is so awkward...I was tempted to rip it out of the desk once when I was already having a bad day...haha!

And I agree with the girl from vicereine's story.  I wish they made left handed notebooks, binders, and padfolios.  I always just use them upside down but people always look at me funny and my professor had a hard time figuring out where the front of my notes was when he required us to turn them in once.

I'm a lefty and proud of it!   Cool

Have a look at http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/ because they have all sorts of left handed things, including pads.

I know what you mean about the pens in banks.  I've also found that you have to contort yourself to type in your PIN on some supermarket machines.

another lefty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! everyone but my dad was a lefty in our family so it wasn't a big deal.  I had a few teacher who didn't like it, but oh well...as a whole...no issues!

This is a test to tell how left handed you are (it's from Tests for left-handedness)

Each task must be carried out instantly and without thinking about it.

1. Imagine the centre of your back is itching. Which hand do you scratch it with?
2. Interlock your fingers. Which thumb is uppermost?

3. Imagine you are applauding. Start clapping your hands. Which hand is uppermost?

4. Wink at and imaginary friend straight in front of you. Which eye does the winking?

5. Put your hands behind your back, one holding the other. Which hand is doing the holding?

6. Someone in front of you is shouting but you cannot hear the words. Cup your ear to hear better. Which ear do you cup?

7. Count to three on your fingers, using the forefinger of the other hand. Which forefinger do you use?

8. Tilt your head to one shoulder. Which shoulder does it touch?

9. Fixate a small distant object with your eyes and point directly at it with your forefinger. Now close one eye. Now change eyes. Which eye was open when the fingertip remained in line with the small object? (when the other eye, the non-dominant one, is open and the dominant eye is closed, the finger will appear to move to one side of the object.)

10. Fold your arms. Which forearm is uppermost?

If you have always considered yourself to be right or left-handed you will now probably discover that your body is less than total in its devotion to the left or right side. Whichever hand you use to write with, the chances are that you were not able to be 'right' 10 times.

The only one I used my right side for was tilting my head (no 8.) so I guess I am mostly left dominant.

I'm predominantly left with only 1 definite right and 1 either (# 8, can touch equal both sides)

I so took two righty desks as well! You gotta do whatcha ya gotta do.Smile

I had a class that addressed all the different things lefties have to think about that right handed people don't and it was a really long list!

One I often think about when going out to eat with my family (since I'm the only lefty) is where I'm going to sit in a restaurant so we're not bumping elbows the whole time.

I'm lefty for most things, but I shoot (aim a bow or rifle) righty.  And I always get confused when I play miniature golf, because neither side feels right.

I always liked in the lecture halls in college that I could sit at a righty desk or lefty (enough years of not having a choice - I had adapted), but if a righty got stuck in a lefty desk, they always complained. I'd just mock them... I'm good at that.

Also when eating in a booth with my boyfriend, we have to be sure I'm on the left side, so we don't bump elbows.

*throws up her left hand*  Sin-handed, here.
I'm sinister! (makes devil horns w/ left hand)

My kindergarten teacher only had right-handed scissors in her classroom and wouldn't let me use my left-handed scissors I brought from home :(  So I was forced to rip everything out with my hands. My art projects always looked terrible!

Happily left handed, just like my little brother and my father. I didn't know we had a day.

With that test I got 2 and 10 as "right". With 2, apparently right on top means left brain dominant, left on top means right brain dominant. Just a little something I picked up on the BBC Sex ID test.

Another lefty here, although I can't say I really had problems with using scissors or desks.  Always batted (softball) right handed though.
