A Happy Weight For A 5'2'' Girl

Quote  |  Reply

I thought I'd make a shout out there ...

Who's 5'2'' like me? What do you think is an average weight for our height? What would be considered slim, what would not? What do you want to weigh, for health and happiness?

I'm 103 pounds right now, and fluctuate between 100 and 105. I consider losing weight a lot of the time, but sometimes I'm not sure what I should do. Am I at a good weight, too heavy, or what? I have issues with eating and tend to either overeat or undereat, so it's hard for me to listen to my body, and I just don't know. I hope to hear some responses from you guys who are probably in a better place than me!

I'm 5'3". I was maintaining at around 130lb, have recently dropped to 125lb due to illness. I feel I look very slim right now. I have no idea what an "average weight" is... average size in the UK is a 16 I believe? I wear an 8 or a US 4 - I feel slim next to your average woman in the street. Most clothes shops do not go to sizes smaller than me. 103lb is definitely on the smaller side, chuck! Actually I wouldn't be happy OR healthy there... why would you want to lose more?

I am 5'2" and a smidge - but no longer a girl.  Back when I was, my all time lowest weight was 102 pounds, and it was horrible.  A person could have counted my ribs at 40 paces - if I ever would have shown them.  I was very careful to hide it because I really did look horrible.  I was going through a stressful period in my life and found myself too stressed to eat much.  (of course this was way back before being underweight was considered cool)

I felt the most comfortable in my skin when I was between 120 and 130.   That is a fit 125.  Hard muscles are sexy.

Depending on your build, you are borderline underweight.  If you are having body issues that you feel you should act on, focus on fitness.

I am 5'2-5'3 ish and weigh 130lb.  I am by no means overweight but I think my happiest weight was 118.  Between 115 and 120 would be a very happy weight for me.  But I think that between 120 and 130 is a very normal weight for us 5'2 gals.  It really all depends on your body frame- I have a medium type body frame.  If you have a small body frame than 100-112 is very normal for you. Hope that helped :)

If anything, you're probably underweight. It seems like all the 5'2"ers and below I know vary too much proportionally.

I am taller than her at 5'5"/5'6", but my sister is 5'2" and 120 lbs. She wears US sizes 4 and 6. At 110, people complimented her on her weight. Even now at 120, my parents (we're Asian, beat that!) and family still think she's a stick. I think anything 130 and under is great, as kay_h said.

I'm 5'4 and a bit.. and I was happiest about my weight hwen i was around 108-110 lbs, but i have an a pretty small frame (i can wrap over my wrist with my pinky and thumb and still overlap, and i have small hands :P).  So I guess medium frame on 5'2 would look about the same, so I think 110 would be good :)

My 17yr sister is about the same as you, and in my opinion, she is unhealthy. She has only just informed me that she has an ED, and it all starts to make sense. She is 2'2 and 98 pounds, but i think she should at least be 105. She always thinks she is too fat, but in my opinion she is too small. I know that weight sits differently on smaller people, but i think that you should not try to lose any more weight. I think the 100 pound mark is some sort of mental barrier, and you should be careful to stay on the higher side and never drop below 100 or else you will always think you should drop below that point and it will become an unhappy issue... i hope this helps!

I'm 5'3" and 106lbs. I used to be 123, everyone said I looked good but I didn;t think so, so I stopped eating and exercised excessively and got to 100 in like 6-8 weeks, except I have anorexia now. I've been recovering for a few months, seeing a psychologist, eating more, and I've  put a little bit on. Though, people have obviously noticed I've lost weight, no one seems no have noticed I have put 6lbs back on. But I have. Trust me, you are fine.

I'm 5'2, 14 years old, and weigh 100lbs.  I used to weigh 120lbs, and I always thought I was too heavy (because that was all body fat).  Now, I have 12 % bodyfat, so my arm muscles and abs are extremely defined.  I love it!  People compliment me all the time, and I don't have to eat some freaky small amount of food to maintain it.  I currently eat 1800-2100 calories a day, and am very active (at least 60 min 5 days/wk).

I think your fine in terms of weight to height ratio.  Focus on maintaining your weight and increasing your lean muscle mass.  Good luck!

I'm 5' 1". When I was in high school I was around 125 and about a size 6-8. I thought that was a good weight for me. I did lose weight to around 115 size 2-4, got a lot of compliments, but that was really too thin. I recall being able to wrap my fingers around my ankles and see my ribs a bit. Somehow being that thin actually made me feel worse about my body. I went back to 125 and happily kept it for years. After having kids, my weight crept slowly up while I wasn't paying attention and is now at 187. Way too far on the other side, but believe it or not I don't see myself as fat, just overweight. I wear a size 14-16 but I have enough curves (DD bra size) to wear clothes well and I still have a waist. I'm planning to start working out and eating right and hope to reach 130, which I think would be a very healthy and happy weight for me. I'm shorter than you. If you are 100-105, you do not need to lose anything. Be happy and healthy. If you aren't happy with your body, add more exercise to build muscle and tone. Don't diet though, not needed for you.

I'm also 5'2" and fluctuate between 99 and 105.  I'd say, we should be happy where we are.  I tend to feel my best at 100 - 101.

Right now, try eating when you are hungry.  Eat small/measured/"serving size" portions.  Eat slowly.  Eat what you burn in a day... you will maintain and feel fabulous. Smile

Once in a while I have a binge day and freak out.  I was 106 last week.  But this morning, back down to 101.  We hold water, undigested food.  Give yourself those five pounds to play around with... but I don't think someone our height should be below 100, personally.... even though it feel awesome.
