p.s still exercising an hour a day and can't wait to get running again![]()
First, 13 pounds at 20 weeks is really not bad. I gained maybe 10 in my first trimester alone, and then about 15-20 in the second, and then about 5 in the third, so I don't think it's fair to assume that you'll necessarily gain a pound a week for the next 20 weeks. Eat right, continue to exercise, have the baby, be patient, and the pounds will come off. Slowly, perhaps, but with persistence they will come off.
I agree with machatica's advice. I gained 40 lbs with my second (as I did with all my pregnancies) and it came off a little at a time until it was gone around 6 months post-partum. Everyone is different though. And don't ask me about the third and fourth baby weight. ![]()
I think every body is different. I had no trouble with the second baby, but others may struggle. It does have a lot to do with age, pre-baby fitness levels and muscle mass, fitness during pregnancy and very much diet during pregnancy. Machatica is right that 13 pounds in 20 weeks is not bad. I gained most of my weight is the first trimester and then it stopped. If you're truly concerned with excess weight gain, then I would be aware of the extra calories you consume. Make sure they are healthful calories and not empty calories. I hate to always remind people, but you will have to pay for what you splurge on after the baby is born.
I know we all think it's an excuse to splurge, but it's really an excuse to be even more adament about eating good foods for you and baby. A sweet/salty treat should be only that; a treat occasionally. Don't stress though.
If you are reaching for a chocolate treat, try a dark chocolate with nuts or berries in it (just don't eat the whole bar!!! LOL!). You can benefit from the anti-oxidants! If it's salty you want, try veggie crisps or popcorn or make sweet potato fries in the oven with sea salt to taste (less sodium and awesome source of beta carotene, Vit-E, protein, fiber, anti-oxidants and potassium (which counteracts the effects of too much sodium and helps with muscle cramps!) Just a thought...
PS. Keep up the good exercise. Your body will thank you after baby comes!
Overall, I gained 55 pounds with my second baby. He was a very big baby, though. Over 10lbs! I lost roughly 19lbs at birth ;) so I really only had about 40 pounds to loose. I credit breast feeding for the quick weight loss. I only have about 12-15 pounds left to loose, and my boy is 9 months old.
It took about the same amount of time to loose the weight from the first baby, roughly 9-12 months. My mom was the same way, so I think a bit of genetics and habits have to do with it.
Just remember this little hint "It took 9 mos to put the weight on, so give your self twice that time to take it off."
Thanks ladies![]()
Thanks for the tips![]()
Had my second on April 28th, I started dieting on July 1st and so far I've lost 21 pounds. I got pregnant at 150lbs, was 198 the day I delivered her, after coming home from the hospital I was down to 187. On July 1 I started at 184 pounds and today I'm 163, I'm trying to get down to 140 which I should accomplish sometime in April. I'm breastfeeding and I eat 1800 calories / day. Just keep in mind that if you're breastfeeding you can't diet for the first 8 weeks while you establish a good milk supply. Good luck and congrats!
Hi i agree with people saying how it depends on you and your body....i was always slim before having children and after my first i was back into my old clothes within 9 days completely naturally.
now my second son is 5 months old and i still have 7lbs of weight to lose which wont go anywhere! I have only lost 3 lbs since his birth although i am not too fussed about it as i am enjoying being mum!
try not worry too much.....your babies need a happy mum and to them you always be beautiful no matter what you look like. you will be fine!!
good luck with your pregnancy
xx
I gained well over 40 lbs for all three of my kids and I lost it all within the year after they were born. I breastfed which I think really helped me, and I ate really healthy and tried to exercise. I have a hard time not eating when I'm pregnant because I'm so hungry, but afterwards when I have a goal and I see results, I seem to just stick with it, and it's worked!
I'm actually pregnant again with number 4 and I'm older now too - 35, but I have no doubt that I'll lose the weight again, even if it takes sheer will-power, but the weight WILL come off!!! ![]()
