am i being too hard on myself?

Quote  |  Reply

I've been having decent days with calories. Today I felt like I ate like absolute crap but only consumed about 1500 calories. I had a&w and subway today.  I feel like I'm failing myself by eating fast foods and like there's no turning back after I eat something really bad for me. Yesterday was especially bad for calories. I had 2500. I'm trying to keep it at about 1300-1500 a day. But I still feel like I'm eating too much to be able to lose weight. I think I'm being too hard on myself. I want to see results but so far after three weeks of amazing eating I haven't seen much of a change. So I've turned to crappy eating again, undoing all the good things I've done for my body in the past few weeks. I need some help and reassurance that I can keep going.I feel hopeless.

yes you are too hard on yourself, plug your stats in here and subtract a 300-500 deficit.

I feel the same way you do, a lot. I'm so ready to see something actually changing. I get frustrated, stop working out and then just eat whatever. But then a week later, after I've stuffed my face of junk food and anything I can get my hands on, I completely regret it. Then I'm back at square one..

Everyone has slip ups, don't undo all your hard work so far. 2500 today, less tomorrow. :)

Always time to correct a mistake. And next time you feel like slipping, think about how you will feel after, knowing you won't be satisfied with yourself. Really hold on to that feeling when you feel you can't control yourself. That's helped me sooo many times already.

Don't give up! <3

Just wanted to remind you of CC guidelines which prohibit promotion of starvation diets. For a young teenage girl that means 1500 is the minimum and for a guy its 1800.

I know it can be frustrating when you're not seeing results but even if the scale doesn't move you are benefiting your body by eating nutritious foods. The worth of that shouldn't be dictated by the number on the scale, if it is then you're changing your habits for the wrong reason hun. Please eat an appropriate amount and realize that all of your hard work is to make you healthy and vibrant, and that's on the inside :)

I don't think anyone was promoting starvation diets here..

like i said, 1500 minimum for females, 1800 minimum for males. less than this is considered starvation, sounds harsh i know but it's not intended to :)

I was more wondering if that was directed at me because I suggested she do less than 2500? Since she expressed that 2500 was bad, I assumed that her recommended intake was less than that, or somewhere close to it. Not promoting starvation, just letting her know that she could always correct herself tomorrow.

no it wasn't directed towards you. it was in response to her statement that she eats 1300-1500 usually. which is less than 1500 and not enough for a teen to consume regularly.

Ahh, okay! Just making sure. Would hate to throw out some bad advice. Thanks. :)

Where are you getting this 1500 = starvation rule from?!

I'm 5'3 and I barely move all day because of school and preparing for classes when I get home. If I ate 1500 I would easily gain 5-10lbs.

For me, 1000-1200 is perfect enough that I'm never hungry, yet I'm never overstuffed or gaining weight.

I used to eat freely, without paying attention to calories or anything, getting 1500-1800 and all I did was cut out the garbage foods (soda, candy, french fries) and got to my eating now. So I don't really see 1000-1200 as starvation when I just cut bad foods from my natural eating style.

Just because you feel full doesn't mean you're properly nourished. You might not feel like you're starving but that doesn't make it true. Resist the information here if you want but 1000 calories for anyone is starvation.

Yeah, I was just told that last night, Chrissy.

Wish I had known that a while ago.

Should have done a little more research before thinking I was overdoing it..

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not a teenager and my recommended daily intake on CC is 1300.  On good days my meals are great and nutritios and I get all of my food groups in.  In no way am I starving or being unhealthy with 1300 calories. 1200 is the MINIMUM for women. I've done my research. 1500 isn't the minimum for my height, weight and activity level.

1500 is a comftorble guideline for me to get the foods that I need without going for the bad crap. I've just had a really bad couple of days on the scale.

But yes, It should be about keeping myself healthy and not for the scale. I totally agree and I'm going to try harder to keep myself in that state of mind.

I guess I assumed you were a teen since you posted in the YCC forum. I apologize. For older women, adults, the minimum is 1200. Thanks for clarifying :)
