How hard do you push yourself?

Quote  |  Reply

I know some people like to exercise at a medium intensity for a longer period of time while others like high intensity for a short amount of time...

For me, I personally love the endorphin overload by high intensity workouts ... 40 minutes cardio with an avg. HR of 175 BPM, 6-7 days/week (with 20 mins strength training).

So what does everybody prefer? Whats your exercise routine like? :-)

as far as cardio workouts go, I usually go in with a set number of calories I want to burn. With that said, I try to burn them in the shortest amount of time, which usually turns out to be using the elliptical, on random or hill setting, and then bumping up the resistance to 6-8. I never have trouble getting my heart rate up, its usually around 180-195.  But lately I've been trying to run, which actually burns calories slower. It takes me 55 minutes running to burn the same amount of calories for 45 minutes on the elliptical.

So i guess my answer is longer, high intensity workouts? but I definitely try to get done ASAP! Its like a competition with myself, "Can i burn 600cals 30sec faster this time?"

Interesting question...for me I push myself on 45 min cardio.  I can tell when I hit the 30-34 min mark as the sweat is pouring off my body.  I havent reached HR of 175..but I do reach HR of 164bpm 6-7 days cardio w/ 3 days strength training for 60 min.

harder than anyone i've EVER known....that's the truth

I push myself when lifting by adding extra weight and finishing my reps.  I do not like cardio so I will go hard for 15 minutes on elliptical of bike.  I like fun cardio stuff like hiking and hopefully will get snowshoes for Christmas!!
