Why I hate Ahnold (the Governator)
Because I am a State Employee, and I am now royally screwed.
Needless to say, I am loathing my cubicle right now.
Nah, you're just in the middle of a political ploy that will (hopefully) get the budget in order. The Controller has already said he won't cut pay.
My boyfriend works for the state as well (State Controller's Office) and he's not fretting. Arnold is just using you like pawns in a political chess game.
Does it suck to be used? Totally. Is it worth it to skip your lunch break to protest at the Capitol? Probably not.
Arnold doesn't hang out there anyway.
I didn't skip my lunch break, I went to Chevy's (lol).
Last meal out in awhile I'm thinking.
I realize it's a political ploy, but I'm not just mad for me. 2 of my friends here are student assistants, and they're losing their jobs completely.
They depend on that pay.
Man, if Nor Cal would just split from So Cal, we wouldn't be having this issue. The republicans would be outnumbered, and we would just raise taxes!
Edit: Then again, when I was in college, and there was a democrat in office, they STILL couldn't settle a budget, and as a result a bunch of the classes I needed for graduation got cancelled. So, not to sure if that's a good idea or not. Haha.
P.S. My degree is not signed by the governator. I squeaked by while Gray was still in office. hehe.

Lol I love how true this is O_O
My boyfriend and I were comparing our jobs and he said his was better despite all the perks I get because, "working for the State is better than for a non-profit because I actually have job security."
HAHAHA
Guess I shouldn't laugh too loudly.
He DOES pay half the rent.
But I agree that republicans who are "rich" (defined as those who make $150,000 per/year per household) should pay for all of our economic problems because they worked hard to get where they are and deserve to pay higher taxes than the rest of us.
Yeah, I totally agree with that logic.
Who defines rich as $150K per household around here? Not me!
And actually, I'm sure quite a few of them did contribute to the questionable lending practices, swindling, and rampant taking of windfalls that got us into this situation.
Privatize gains, socialize losses? Hmmmm.
But, yeah... getting back to the main point. I agree that Arnold is just using scare tactics. He did the same thing with the park system, and the outrage that caused allowed him to increase park admission at the most popular parks to save the rest. I wouldn't be surprised if this were a similar strategy.
I'm not mad at the Governor.
I'm mad at the State legislature that refuses to comply with California law and produce a balanced budget on time.
THEY should be getting no paychecks until there's a budget.

They're not from what I know, Molly.
ALL higher ups, including the legislature, are not getting paid as of July 1st.
Is Arnold taking a pay cut too??? Lead by example?
You just made my point.
if you'd check the legislation you vote for, most every tax increase has the greatest effect on households at 150,000-200,000.
They are hit hardest because they are considered wealthy, but they're not.
When we "tax the rich to feed the poor" we actually tax hard-working middle-class citizens in order to house drug-addicted welfare collectors.
I'm at the Capitol this very second reading a document on this very topic.
Life is interesting that way.

Wow... was it that way last time? Cause I think it went on for like MONTHS last time.
Were they all working without pay? We must have a bunch of rich fatcats in our legislature for them to not be motivated by a lack of paycheck.
Let's not get into this debate again. That last taxation thread gave me a headache for a week. The real issue is our retarded legislature, and yes, they've been that way for a while.
Since you weren't here yet when it was active, here's the link: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/107 277.html You can read every post if you're bored/sadistic. I think it pretty much covers every POV out there.
"I'm a CPA, working in Commercial Real Estate.
No, I'm not good with numbers, and I don't do taxes. ;)"
that's pretty personal : )
I'm not trying to make enemies. I just get passionate when I talk politics. It's my job.
Sorry to offend.
Cheers to good health.

From my friend, who also works for the State,
"They (the legislators) haven’t been paid their salary OR their per deim rate since June 1st. And Governator doesn’t accept his $212K annual salary. He is already worth $100M."
Wow. Although, given the fact that our economy is larger than many countries, it isn't surprising that we're having tough issues figuring it out just like the rest of them. Just hope you don't have to suffer too long!

And this is exactly why I avoid any and all political discussions. Guess what. I am one of those low income individuals. I work my behind off and am a single mother. Now, is that my fault? Perhaps. Maybe I should have gone to college or heck, married a rich man (sarcasm). I could have made a better decision in terms of who fathered my children. Alas, to quote you, "Life is interesting that way."
I am in no way a drug-addicted welfare collector. My two children and I live in low income housing and receive food stamps. Which, I guess you could call welfare. Again, I work. I don't sit up on my behind and let someone else take care of me or my family. I do all I can to provide for my children without their father's help because he can't be bothered enough to help out and I'd have to be tied up, tarred, and feathered before I let some idiotic drug abuser pay child support and end up with visitation rights. In doing so, my children would be exposed to that sort of life.
I raise my children with dang good values and stress college every day of their lives. I might be a low income, single mother, but I still do my best with the resources we have available to us.
In that rather long rant, do not group people together like that. Granted, a good percentage of low income families are filled with lazy drug abusers. Not everyone is like that and I personally take offense to being lumped together with complete idiots.
momof2kd -
I highly respect you for the obviously difficult choices you have had to make in order to raise your children, and I applaud your determination not compromise your values. People from every walk of life could learn a thing or three from your example (myself definitely included).
I believe laurensking did not intend to 'lump' you together with anyone or belittle you in any way. I think all that poster meant was (as you acknowledge) that there are (as you said) "a good percentage of low income families... filled with lazy drug abusers" out there that benefit from the increased taxation of hard-working individuals who are struggling to meet the needs of their own families as it is. This is not to say that you are, by any means, part of those that laurensking was referring to.
