I HATE HATE HATE allergies!

Quote  |  Reply

I am allergic to grass pollen. It sucks when I have to mow the lawn and then I end up sniffling like heck! Trust me, that's why I take Clariten every day. (I am not advertising. I hate that bogus stuff.)

Want some advice? Ditch Claritin. I took it for years, but once I actually got allergy tested they took me off it because it wasn't potent enough. I recommend getting allergy tested ASAP- it helps you get medicine that will help more.

Trust me, I hate allergies, too. I'm allergic to trees, grass, mold, dust, pollen, horses, dogs, cats and a plethora of other things. I live in the middle of nowhere [aka lots of grass and trees] in Oklahoma [aka lots of dust] and have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 horses. Allergies do suck.

I would definitely go get allergy tested. You can get allergy shots [which I'm too wimpy to get] and you'll eventually be desensitized. But don't take over the counter meds for allergies unless they're really light.

Then again, maybe it's just your body type that doesn't sit well with Clariten. I take it every day, and if i forget a day, I'm miserable. Taking Clariten really works for my sniffles and sneezes.

Yesterday, my family and I were doing yardwork. I forgot to take my Clariten. My dad was mowing the lawn and dumped the grass bag out nearby where I was standing. I was sneezing, coughing (It was a hot day in Graham, Washington). So I was miserable, and sniffly until I took my Clariten at about 2:30 in the afternoon.

So I have to take it, since I still live with my parents because I'm a kid. And my dad is very strict about my vitamins every day! Also, I just can't "live" without it.

I would get tested, but I'm also very wimpy when it comes to that. I have an almost phobia of needles. When I was 4, getting ready for kindergarten with shots, I ran around in the room screaming my head off. I don't do that anymore...but I have a  big worry for pointy things that are found in a doctor's office. My mom is positive that i am allergic to cats and grass pollen.

You're probably right about my body type- I had been taking Claritin for so long that I probably just became immune to it. Glad it works for you! And I would never suggest "living without" allergy medicine. If I forget a day, sometimes I get so sick I can't get out of bed.

I know that the allergy testing sucks, but it's just for an hour, then you can know what you're allergic to and take measures to keep yourself away from it, and if you can't, then you can be put on medicine that can completely smother your allergies. Also, in lieu of shots, I've heard that they have drops that you put under your tongue now that have the same effect. The allergy testing isn't huge shot needles either- it's just one very small needle that has the allergen on it that they scratch against your skin. They only inject you with the ones that you are most allergic to. Why? I don't know. They probably explained it, but I wasn't listening, because I was crying like a baby. Trust me, I understand! I'm 17 and I'm still petrified of shots. :-)
