i hate buying pants!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm around 5'3".. and buying pants is a nightmare! Finding pants to fit my waist/ hip area is not the biggest prob-- it's the inseam. I find all the regular and long lengths but it's so hard finding the short ones.. I have such short legs. I'm tempted to buy capri pants and make them into normal pants..

I just bought some new ones and decided to have them tailored to fit. I'm really pumped about that.. I've never had my pants cut to fit!

Anyone else with sizing disasters?

That sounds like a really great idea, the tailoring.  I am the opposite (tall) but I hate buying pants too.  All of my pants are from Lane Bryant because they make really long pants (34" inseam), and they are made to fit the booty.  I have also tried on Lane Bryant Petite's and used them as Capris, lol!!
I hate buying pants.  I'm not an emotional person, but shopping for pants has brought me to tears a few times.  My main problem is that I have a big butt and thighs and a pretty small waist (47" hips and 31" waist).  I can't seem to find any pants that fit over my butt and thighs and don't drown my waist.  For some reason, women's pants are worse than men's pants so I've just bought men's pants since I was a teenager.
I am 5'3" also.  Everytime I get them to fit in the waist they are way too long and if they fit in length they are too big at the waist.  Old Navy had short that fit perfectly but they went and re-styled them.  The short I got in their new style just didn't fit the way the old short did.
That's odd.  Today I went looking for new jeans and could only find the short and regular lengths.  I need the long.  Maybe you should move here and I should move there, that way we can both find the pants we need.

I have two problems...my waist to hip ratio is too high, so anything that fits in the waist is baggy and saggy in the ass.  Nice!  And then I'm short, so I need approx. a 29" inseam....short/petite length pants always seem to be about 30", so they're always just a tiny bit too long.  Grr.  If I ever have the good fortune to find a pair of pants that actually fits without alteration...I will buy multiple pairs.

Arg, I feel you on this one!! I'm 5'2 and buying pants is always a complete disaster for me. It's extremely frustrating to have to search for short lengths when most stores don't even carry them.

The two brands I have found that are affordable and don't make me trip on the length are from Old Navy and the Sarah Jessica Parker brand from Steve and Barrys. I gave up trying to buy  regular pants when I tried on a pair of "ankle length" at the Gap and it was about 3 inches too long =(

I am so glad I'm a seamstress, otherwise I'd drive myself crasy trying to find pants that don't drag on the ground.  I bought a few pairs of dress pants in October and had to re-hem every single one of them.  I hacked off about five inches from each pair, and it was the smallest inseam they had.  I'm around 5'2.5 and I don't know what's wrong with my body shape, but not a lot of pants seem to fit right.

If I didn't hate working with denim so much, I'd make my own jeans.  It's a pain in the ass trying to hem those, too, and I usually roll them up instead.

I have to wear the longer capri pants as regular pants, and jeans are always too long. I also really appreciate 3/4 length sleeves as they are almost the correct length for a normal shirt for me. The regular long sleeves go past my finger tips.

I have recently gotten a sewing machine, I just need to practice with it before I actually start hemming pants. I don't want to ruin the one I can sort of wear now by messing up cutting off too much or not hemming straight.
