I am trying to eat more healthy and bring in foods with less fat (meaning cutting down on the hamburgers.) Most of the healthy recipes that have protein call for chicken. I can not stand the taste of chicken in any form (even chicken flavored tofu). What can I do to eat healthy but still be able to consume proteins?
Do you hate the taste of chicken when a restaurant cooks it, or is it just when you prepare it?
I love fake-n-bake chicken. Exact recipe? Not sure but it involves rolling the chicken breast in crushed up corn flakes with various spices and toss it in the oven. I'm sure there's plenty of recipes online.
If you just truly hate it and have tried it a few different ways, just move on to turkey or fish.
Hi, I'm vegetarian so I don't like the flavor of chicken either. I would suggest trying beans (I had black beans and rice along with mushrooms and wilted spinach for dinner- beans are terrific if you cook and season them yourself). Also, you might try a grain called quinoa, it is the only grain that provides a complete protein. It is excellent in soups, risotto-style, etc. Also, leafy green vegetables are a great source of protein. If you think you don't like spinach, try it again- baby spinach is great in salads and I love it wilted- just barely steamed- way way different than the boiled soupy mush my grandmother cooked... I know this may not be exactly what you had in mind, but there are defintely great sources of low-fat protein and they are nothing like chicken...not to mention, you can eat ALOT of it so you don't feel hungry. There are many great vegetarian recipes out there- maybe experimenting in that direction will make things a little more exciting than chicken chicken chicken... good luck! If you want any recipes, let me know and I will send you some...

There are other alternatives such as vegeterian burgers, ribs etc...some made with beans some not...boca burgers etc...also you might consider eating Bison....lots of alternatives...
How do you feel about turkey? It's a good, lean protein source. Also, very lean pork is ok, but make the portions a little smaller. You could also have fish.
Beans are great! You get a balance of protein and carbs, and a big bonus of fiber. They're versitile too!
Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. I've been eating a lot of beans and after a while eating the same thing gets a little tiring. But you guys also gave me a lot of other alternatives. Happy eating everyone. And if you have any recipes shoot them my way. I love to cook!
hey there,
there are literally thousands of kinds of beans and grains. although the local store may only have a dozen or maybe 20. Most of them do have different flavors and texture varis, not just from one to anouther, but how they're prepared and how long their cooked. Like lentils are earthy and if they are stewed a long time (think slow cooker) they develop an interesting mouth feel like ground beef. So dishes that might use hamburger, like chili or spaghetti sauce, or a faux Hamburger Helper thing, are good inspirations for lentil concoctions.
And back to my original point, I'm talking about brown or green lentils; there are six kinds of lentils that I have actually tasted (huge Indian and Pakistani communities in my area).
I'm not a lentil fanatic, it's just the first example that came to mind. Black beans are actually my favorites. And haricot vert is hard to beat (fresh vegetables are beans, too.)
Enjoy the journey!
