I hate cynical people
I really do. It's becoming such a hassle to comfort my ridiculously cynical friends, especially when its hard to help them rationalize their lives or the situations they're in because they think THEY'RE the ones being realistic. Then I'M the annoying one because I try to help them. I can't stand it.
Here is an example that happened today:
Me: Hey, do you know where the nearest recycling center/public service center in Las Vegas is?
Friend: There is no recycling. Las Vegas doesn't give a **** if you recycle.
Me: Um. Doubt the govenor of Nevada is just gonna be like "screw recycling!".
Friend: Ugh. You have too much faith in people.
Me: And..you're really pessimistic.
Friend: No, I'm just not like you. I don't think I'm the queen of England and I'm gonna live in a pretty little castle when I get older.
Okay. SERIOUSLY?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? If you're going to bring everyone down with your crappy comments, at least be realistic.
You know what? To hell with you guys, you only bring me down. Okay, so your cat died. Not wanting another cat just because "it'll die anyway" is a crappy approach. So you've met some terrible people. Realize that not everyone is the same and just move on with your life. Nothing THAT traumatic has happened to cause you to think that everything just sucks and "oh, woe is me".
Sorry, this was a very angry rant, and I have no clue who it was directed at anyway.
AND to top it all off, I still don't know where to take my bottles and cans.
I need a happy meal
that would annoy me too. i think you probably should find some new friends
haha deadly.,....this post made me laugh!....totally know people like that.....
but ur friend sounds like an ass...theres being in a bad mood and then theres being an ASS!....
Well, it turns out first off that your friend is wrong. Las Vegas has a city recycling program and several businesses that do recycling:
http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/sustaininglasve gas/recycling.htm
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&am p;rls=en&q=recycling+Las+Vegas&ie=UTF -8&oe=UTF-8
I can also find people who have to be wet blankets about everything tiresome, but I also find people who behave overly sheltered and never question anything a little...unsettling. If you friend's cat DID just die, I can excuse the sour mood a little more though. I'm not saying never get another cat, but when someone has a bond with a specific pet they have to have time to grieve. Animals have their own personalities, it's not just a matter of going "Just get another cat". To a loving pet owner, that can even come off as insensitive or insulting.
Coffincritter- Nooo. My friend's cat didn't die. It was an example, haha. I wouldn't ever just be like "GET OVER IT" because I understand and I love cats! I just hate when people avoid things because they feel it'll end in disappointment. I'm tired so I don't know if that last sentence made sense. And I actually question things all the time, haha. I'm not overly optimistic or anything, but I prefer people to be rational about things and not let things destroy their lives and the way they view people.
And thanks, for the info on recycling, haha. I feel silly for not being able to find it.

I'm not sure if she was in a bad mood, but we tend to have conversations like that a lot, and I think the straw broke the camel's back this time for me.

Have you seen Prince William? He is so cute, I totally would.... ah... marry him that is. So maybe you WILL be Queen of England some day. Ti-hi. ![]()

If this is accurate, I found this comment amusing. I mean - have you ever indicated that you think you're the Queen of England? If so, you do need some help. If you actually are the Queen, then you'd ALREADY be living in a castle. And what does that have to do with wanting to recycle and assuming state leadership won't ignore the need for it?
Don't let the cynics get you down - and enjoy your Happy Meal!

maybe you need new friends.
I spent several years on the earth before realising that people don't think, feel, say and behave as I want them to. I can, though, choose who I interact with.
Yes, be good to keep cynicism at bay or it'll come and get you! (I think it got you. A bit.)
maybe you're confusing cynicism with assholism.
I'm pretty cynical but I don't rain on other's parades. (WTH was that queen BS about??? sheesh) Maybe its just that I don't have any trust/faith/hope left. *shrug*
My sense of humor balances it out though. Although many of my jokes are just for me. (apparenlty. heh)
I am the Queen of England. And I like to say "La De Da" and eat scones in the turrets of my castle.
So tell your friend the position has already been filled.
And then throw an empty pop bottle at her for suggesting you steal my job.

Me too - in my own mind, I'm hilarious.
First off, that sounds like an almost, depressed attitude rather than cynical. Although I wonder if extreme cynisicm and depression correlate.
Secondly, if this friend of yours is simply extremely cynical you can probably use a logical argument to get them to accept the idea of altruism. What I'm talking about are supported scientific arguments for the development of "kindess" in the human species. This would most likely appeal to a cynic more than some type of irrational objective morality argument. Examples would be things like "Evolutionary Morality" or maybe even, "Social Darwanism".

Also, heres a book I'm actually thinking about getting:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindness-Cruel-World- Evolution-Altruism/dp/1591022282
If your friend can't find a philosophical or scientific reason to be kind, then I'm sorry, but they're what I'd call a "dickhead".
My first thought after reading your post was, I am not sure the OP knows what cynicism is, this sounds more like pessimism and rigidity and just plain meanness....but I like starlitocean's term better, douchebaggism, haha that's awesome.
It must be really awful to be so bitter all the time. Just be grateful you have a brighter outlook, and are not weighted down by so much negativity. Definately time to find some more positive friends to balance that out.
I used to have a friend who was very cynical, kind of a man-hater, had no faith in people in general, and loved to play the victim role (while saying she hated victims and disliked drama). It took me a while to catch on...and by the time I did, I have to admit, some of her attitude had rubbed off on me. It's catchy. So be careful!
