For clarification purposes, did you intend to say, "I hate those days when I can't stop eating?"

I understand what you are going through i also have those days when all i want to do is eat. I am 18 and sufferin from depression.I eat all the time on the these days i feel like i am eating my problems away.
omg i hate those days. im going thru one of those...weeks. its bad. i think cuz last week i tried to not eat a whole lot. so i think if you stay consistant with the rest of the days as far as staying on track, then you wont stray later and eat tooo much. i think i just dont have enough to do with myself. but i agree it really sucks. just hope it ends soon. lol

me too, im having a really stressful week at work. I wish I could control the stress but all I want to do is eat and sleep...

i hope this doesnt last long....
usually if i catch myself eating way too much then i try to find an alternative to it. even if it doesnt work, its good to at least try. chew gum, or exercise, or take a bath (even tho its summer). anything to at least try. make tomorrow a good day by eating a really good breakfast, itll make the rest of the day go by smoothly

I don't belive it will last long. Usually i eat like this this for a day i have been going through it for almost 3 years now.
i definently know how you feel. i'll be not hungry at all one day, then absolutely ravenous the next. i just make sure to eat LOTS of healthy stuff instead of junk

I have been eating salad with lots of grilled chicken, special k and nutri grain bars. It doesnt look unhealthy but if you eat tons of it I guess it doesnt really matter....
Yeah, those sorts of days suck. :(

The best you can do for yourself is make sure that you don't keep unhealthy snacks around you, and that when you do feel like you absolutely MUST snack, reach for something healthy (e.g. fruits & veggies).

You could also get some exercise--like taking a walk--because in addition to moving you away from all sources of food, I (personally) rarely feel hungry after exercise, and the endorphins spread by exercising make you happy, so if you're eating because you're depressed, that should help. :)
psh try like the entire WEEK before my period.

I never ever have a problem with portion control or refusing sweets besides that time. it's a drag. :[
wow, I never made that connection before but you're right...the week before my period I eat everything in sight, especially sweets.
I get that way when I am tired and/or have PMS.

I like to much on dry Cheerios...great 'tv' food snack.
I have a list on the 'fridge:Alternatives to Eating

  1. Drink water
  2. Chew (sugarless) gum
  3. Brush my teeth
  4. Take a walk
  5. Take a bubble bath
  6. Give yourself a facial
  7. Call a friend
  8. Dig in the garden
  9. Try meditating
  10. And My Favorite - go seduce your fella!
I usually get part way thru the list before the urge to binge goes away. Too bad, I wish I'd get to #10 more often :)

Sure, we all have those days! Always remeber H A L T! that is, don't get too Hungry, Angry(anxious), Lonely or Tired.
krismasself:  so funny.  it's a wonder your fella hasn't seen the list and reversed the order!

depressive:  Nothing like work to bring this on.  I just got over a 3 day binge.  I just woke up this morning and it was over.  I really feel for you cause its awful when it happens.  But remind yourself that eating is not making the problems go away and will only make you feel worse!!!

If it is hunger you feel (mine wasn't) try keeping some healthy soup on hand, or veggies and fruit that make you feel full and don't forget water.

hey guys...

i had those at the beginning of my dieting... i soon found a remedy and thins went pretty smooth for me. I just have 8 more lbs to lose and i will be perfect and exactly the size i wanted to be in.

anyways... to get over the problem...

1. STOP BUYING JUNK FOOD, all eatables in my house are either fruits or vegetables and low fat pita bread. Whenever i get a craving i just don't have anything to eat but fruits and veggies. Its okay to eat them as much as you want, but you don't generally eat too much of it since most of us don't like it that much. Trust me it works.

2. DONOT CARRY CASH: Don't carry cash with you. Keep that in your car. so even if you see a vending machine, you can't buy junk. you will feel awkward to use your card to buy stuff that costs 1-5 dollars.

try this... and let me know if it works for you.

i am quite excited that i will be reaching my goal soon. As a reward of eating fruits and veggies my body is giving me a beautiful skin and shinning hair. Trust me, in last 2 months my skin and hair have changed so drastically. Thanks to the Greens, reds, yellows and other colours that fill my plate :)

I think everyone has those days...especially when you are on a diet because all you think about is food! I try to have foods that are guilt free like fruit or veggies so that I can snack, do something other than what I should be doing (at work...snacking is a great alternative to typing!) and have something to do with my mouth. That really seems to help get through those trouble times. Good luck!
Oh yes.  I recently went away to NYC for the weekend and I KNEW I was going to let myself get away with some things.  I was going to have Chinese food because there is this great resturant on the lower east side I love.  And I knew I was going to have cheesecake.  I a lot of bad stuff for about 3-4 days.

Luckily Ive only gained like 3 pounds from the whole ordeal, but its so hard to turn off eating as much and go back to regular.  I binged just a tiny bit yesterday (probably still stayed under 2000 calories) but its so hard to stop :(

Yes, Ohio...he probably would reverse it if he weren't out of town so often. But once we start traveling in the motorhome, that list will be on the fridge in there. I'll have to be careful not to distract him while he's driving though!Wink

Janhavi, I like your suggestions too. I keep a housefull of healthy foods, but if I'm really bent on binging, I can even do that with healthy stuff. Probably I'm the only person alive who can binge on broccoli...LOL! The cash idea is good too. I used to keep change in my desk drawer because the vending machine was right accross the hall. Disaster!! Now all my change goes in the "travel fund" jar!

Someone had posted a forum about how expensive healthy food is. So here's an idea. Any cash you would have spent on junk food or a binge item, put it into a jar and at the end of the week use it to go buy fruits or veggies, fresh and yummy!
