I hate my frikkin' scale!

Quote  |  Reply

Why does my scale decide to move down when I lose weight in the unhealthy way.  However, it refuses to go anywhere but up when I decide to do it the healthy way.

What the hell is wrong with my scale?  It is my worst enemy.  I recently decided to weigh myself only once a week.  The whole last week I did well and then I got on that frikkin' scale on Monday, sure enough, it didn't move.  WTF!!!!

Of course, not only it didn't show any progess, it subconsciously told me to go on an eating rampage because no matter how hard I try, I will never succeed.

Today I decided to throw my scale in the garbage where it belongs.  I've found my new friend: the measuring tape.  At least it told me I lost 2 inches so far on each of my thighs, which totals up to 4 inches lost.

Finally, results -- yeah!!!

that's the spirit...screw scales!! when we can't find contentment with one form of measurement...seek another. pounds are pounds are pounds...id rather look svelte and 200pounds [though unlikely at 4'11] than be a jiggly blob of 50 pounds. lol. i think you have a great mindset!! great job on the inches lost!!

my scale and your scale are related.  mine is stuck on 175 no matter what i do.  although i have lost a total of 14.25 inches off and dropped my bf 7.5 points i am not dropping weight.  even bought a new scale, TWICE  joined TOPS 2 weeks ago and their scale says the same thing. makes me want to eat a bag of chips and i don't even like them.

That's right-- throw out the abomination :).  My scale (Wii Fit body test) told me that I gained over a pound after my workout a couple of weeks ago after a week of being "good."  I was really discouraged and irked.  This last week, it said I lost over 3 lbs.  I figure the reality of it probably falls somewhere in between those numbers, but I can no longer be bothered.Cool

My clothes fit better, I feel better and look smaller and toned up.  To hell with the scale!  You should find peace now. :)

Some days I love my scale.  I love it so much that I say positive things to it (out loud).

However, the love affair is officially over!  It hasn't moved in five weeks.  I run a minimum of three miles, six days a week.  Calories between 1,600 - 1,800 a day.  Nothing.  Not one ounce.

I'm with you.  Going to the bathroom now to toss the darn thing!  The love is gone but the memory still lingers...

I always heard never go near your scale more than once a month. Or you will surely be disappointed. I've just started dieting again last week.  I had open heart surgery in 2002 and haven't been able to exercise as much as I need to, due to the surgery and my blood pressure medicine, which makes me lethargic. Therefore I've slowly regained the weight I lost.  About 18 years ago I dieted successfully, And learned that the hard way. I found that staying off the scale and faithfully logging all my food helped the most. I hope I can do it again. Very uncomfortable at the weight I am now. I'm hoping that if I can loose about 40lbs. I will be more able to also start bicycling again. Tried walking, but so many veins removed from my legs for my surgery make it very difficult. I'm hoping that I will have better luck bicycling.

Have you tried swimming? It's great exercise and doesn't put any pressure on your joints or anything. ^_^

Anyway, I'm glad I stumbled across this post because I was almost considering getting a scale. The one at the fitness center where I usually weigh myself has been broken for 3 weeks. :( I have no idea when they're going to get it fixed. However! I know that if I bought a scale I'd weigh myself OBSESSIVELY, and because of that I'm resisting the urge.

I would like a body fat measurer though. I think that would be helpful :)

Don't really have access to a place to swim.  Yeah, A body fat measurer would be handy, and more to the point I think.

my scale has a body fat measurer in it  don't know how it works except that youcan't have wet feet when you step on or it screws up.  also measures hydration.

omg yeah i hate my scale!  mine doesn't get stuck, it thrashes about wildly!  last month for like 2 weeks it bounced up and down 2 pounds.  i'd be 221, next day 223, 221, 223, 222, 220...  every day a different number!  it was so frustrating.  then i was fine for about a week or two, and today it says i'm 2 pounds heavier than yesterday.  GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

now i'm paying more attention to the trend line that cc's weight log gives.  if i've learned anything in business school, it's that trend lines show you what's happening better than the actual zigzagging chart.

my scale simply can't make up its mind. the other night I weighed myself at 132, and then, feeling very happy decided I wanted to see that number again. The same scale said I weighed a pound more literally 30 seconds later. The next morning it said I was two pounds heavier...

I have no idea whether or not I've actually lost any weight...

I think getting rid of your scale was a great decision! Using the mesauring tape will definitely help you stay motivated, it may take longer to notice results sometimes with measuring vs. weighing, but I think it isn't quite so skittish. One crappy meal or a few pounds of water weight from your period or something isn't going to show up nearly as drastically in measurements as it does in weight.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
  1. Plot your weight curve
  2. Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
  3. Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
