Do you hate your job??

Quote  |  Reply

Tell me... do you hate your job?!?  I work at a place that makes me want to pull my hair out everyday.  I dread coming to work, I barely tolerate being here, and have to take several deep breaths on the way home so I don't bring a bad mood into my house at night!

How do you all deal with it?!?

Yes I am working in a living Hell!!!! My Boss is a Racist and Bigot!  Saying the N-word all the time and other rude and discriminatory words!  Also the girls I work with are turn coats and rude and stab you in the back in a heart beat! Did I mention one of them is my bosses daughter... Also they treat the oldest guy at my work horribly talking about him behind his back and making fun of his age and religion. ( oh yeah thats my boss and the two other girls that do this!) There are some many other things I could rant about and things they do to go out of there way to be mean.

The best thing I find is I write emails stating what they did and what I want to say to them and the I delete the email...

Well, I don't deal with a lot of racist, or dimeaning comments.  I can, however, relate to wishing I was doing something else.

I went to cosmetology school when I was 20, have done hair on and off for the last 5 years, and now work in an office, behind a desk, for a horribly run company!

I answer the phone when customer service or sales miss their calls, and transfer them back with basic customer information.  Half the time, CS doesn't answer the phone, the entire sales team has decided to take a lunch break at the same time, I end up with 12 calls on hold for no one to take, and when people DO decide to take their damn calls - they practically rip my head off!  That, and the other receptionist that works with me doesn't answer any of them, and leaves to answer her cell phone.

It's so extremely frustrating!  I miss doing hair!  I miss being creative, having fun and being on my feet all day.  I miss being tired from actual activity, instead of being exhausted from the emotional drain of dealing with everyone elses crap and working with an entire building of people who don't want to do their freakin' job!

samantha81- I can totally understand where your coming from on the whole phone thing! It is so annoying...

I got yelled at once over the intercom by the bosses daughter because I did not put the phone call on park and told her she had a phone call. Instead I forwarded the phone to her since I knew she was in her office. Because of that I got yelled at in front of other coworkers.

I did until I lost it :(

Now I don't know what to do with myself

With the job situation the way it is right now most people are happy to even have a job!...Happy to have a job you hate; now isn't that ironic? lol

ok, I'm a babbler *shrugs*

I love my job.

In the same boat. Hate my job and my boss, but love the company I work for. The HR lady just left my office where I told her I had refused the manager position (I am an accountant) because I didn't like dealing with a lot of people! I would rather sit and crunch numbers. Anyways she said I need to do what is fair to my position~ I guess meaning quit. I said I would switch responsibilities with another senior but my boss said absolutly not (a couple weeks ago when I asked him).

Whatever, I try not to complain to my husband because his answer is always QUIT, but I hold the health insurance for all of us. I dont want to put the stress on him............

I just want a JOB I can be passionate about, like teaching. Doing what I do makes great money, but at this point I am willing to change my lifestyle to being a happier person with less money.Wow I just wrote a long vent......sorry about all that, but thanks for listening lol.

The worst part is when people tell you to be glad that you have a job; like you don't have the right to complain during a bad economy. There are plenty of jobs out there, most people just don't have the required skills. That's why I am looking at going back to school for Database Administration. There's lots of financial help (in most states) these days if you choose a community college.

At least you have something to fall back on. Why don't you go back to doing hair?

I am planning on going back to school for Journalism, so hopefully that takes my mind off the fact that my job makes me want to rip my arms just to have something to beat myself with.

I haven't gone back to doing hair because I moved to another state over a year ago and can't afford to live off the little bit I would make until I can build up a clientele.

I am grateful to get a paycheck every two weeks, but I'm sure as hell not grateful for the means of receiving it!  Sometime, it just sucks!  Lol.

However, today I've exercised some particularly strong "yoga breathing", and that seems to be keeping my head from blowing up!

I like my job but there are times when I do hate the position I am in.  I have a sort of "upstairs-downstairs" job.  That is, I work with the low and the high and have to tread carefully between them.

As a result I often have to take the "responsibility" for any failing - low or high.  It is maddening to do everything you can right but still have to listen to the tirade because someone else did not follow through.  You see, I am in a position where I often uncover the errors and have to report about them.  But I did not create the situation.  But I am left to clean it up.

But then again, I am working on not blaming others.  Perhaps my point of view is skewed.

I like my job, and I like my boss.

Then again, I am self-employed.  Tongue out

i really like my job and am very thankful to have it.

samantha- I work at an inbound call center, so I sit at a computer glued to my leash headset. And I really like it.

I only work part time and it's because I want to, not because I have to. My husband would probably actually rather I stay home, but I enjoy the social aspect as well as the peanuts paycheck.

I work with a lot of people who (although we do the exact same job), they complain non-stop, about the calls, the co-workers, company policy, etc etc. For the most part, I'm pretty good-natured about all of that.

You're there to do your job, even if the other people try to shirk theirs- you can control whether it gets to you or not. Try to keep light-hearted, it'll make the days so much more pleasant! :)

I play with a whole lotta money.

I like my job and my coworkers. It's draining at times, but I'm lucky to have an internship in my chosen field, and I'm thankful for that.

I like my job, my place of work and the people I work with.  I've been here 20 years and am pretty much happy with everything i.e. pay, working conditions, etc.  There are people that work here, though, that hate it.  Sometimes I think it has alot to do with our perception and how we deal with things.

You seem to feel a great sense of responsibility to your clients - rightly so - but you can only do so much, right?  Do YOUR job to the best of your ability and don't worry so much about your co-workers doing theirs.  Try not to let your frustration with your co-workers dominate your day. You'll feel less stress if you focus on what you can control rather than what you can't.

I can agree with that, and I'd say I maintain that attitude most of the time!  I'm typically not the kind of person who let other people dictate how my day is going to be.  However, when you sit at a desk for 8 hours + a day for a company that is poorly run, and you're either getting yelled at by clients or by your co-workers, sometimes it gets a little difficult to keep up that cheery outlook!

Yesterday was probably one of the worst days I've had in a really long time, hence the post!  Most days are frustrating to an extent, but I can handle it and let it go.  But yesterday was hell and it definitely helped being able to vent!

Kudos to those who love their job!

This may be the place I come for now, but it's not where I'm going to be for years to come.  I'm working toward doing something I love, too.

I just hope I don't pop a blood vessel in the meantime ;)

Good for you - good luck!

Hang in there : )

I don't hate my job, but I wish I was doing something different with my life. I went to college for Communications/Marketing, which I thought, at the time, would be a great career for me. I currently work for an insurance company doing sales and marketing, and have been at the same company for almost three years. The job has its perks: The pay is nice, and the other benefits (bonuses, vacation/personal time, etc) are all very generous as well. I guess I am not completely satisfied because I am not doing something I am passionate about. All of this should change soon, though, as I plan to go back to school for personal training and nutrition!! Smile

I would love to study nutrition!  That's actually what I want to focus my writing on with my degree in Journalism (once I get it).

When I originally posted I was having an absolutely hideous day, and the following one wasn't much better.  However, the job itself isn't that bad (borning, mundane and mind-numbing as it is), it's the fact that half the people here work really hard, and the rest simply ride on the coat tails of those of us who actually get things done.  Then, we have to take the brunt of it, and deal with attitude from the ones who don't want to be forced to work.  It's extremely frustrating!

I guess I just want to make sure I don't get stuck here, because I do get paid well and have good benefits.  Yet sometimes that's just not enough to make up for everything else.

I think I could deal better with stress and frustration from any aspect if I was actually doing something I wanted to do.
