I hate mayonnaise...any other ideas for tuna?
You could try using sour cream or yogurt in place of mayo. But if you want to get creative, you could try cottage cheese or hummus.
with some honey mustard and olive oil.
I have never liked mayo either, so I use a few tablespoons of fat free or low fat sour cream in place of it.
It doesn't have to have a creamy base. Toss the tuna, celery and onion, etc, with a little fat free bottled Italian dressing, livened up with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Add some fresh minced parsley too.
Kraft light dressings are great. I think the caesar would go good with tuna. Though, I am vegetarian:) But from back when I wasn't I would guess that the caesar one might work:)
I never use mayo. I open the tuna, put it in a strainer and rinse it. Removes a lot of the sodium that way. Then I mix it with whatever I am hungry for that day.
Pinto beans
Garlic powder, onion power, chili powder
Cottage cheese
Kidney beans
Any kind of veggies
Egg beaters
Plain yogurt with spices and jalapeños
Lemon juice
Just use your imagination
Microwave 1 oz Fat Free Cheddar Cheese with 5 oz tuna for 35 seconds, mix it up and throw it on some toasted bread with 1 tbsp fat free ranch and you got yourself a nice tuna melt.
Try Vegan Mayo I hate regular Mayo but the Vegan version has a completly different flavor I get the kind from whole food markets/Wild Oats it is very good.
i like spicy thai chili tuna:
mix thai chili flakes, chinese chili paste, ketchup, sesame oil, a dash of soy sauce, finely chopped garlic & onion. add to drained tuna.
bumble bee makes a packaged one that's good but high in sodium.
i use a ton of lime juice and some salt.
oho ho! so good!
I like to add a little chopped sweet pickle and some of the juice!
I've been using spicy brown mustard. I'm not even a giant mustard fun, but I find it to be pretty tasty!
Hi - have you tried Greek plain yogurt? It is really tangy, unsweetened, very creamy, fat free, 130 calories per cup and 22 grams of protein. You could add the spicy mustard to it and some other seasonings and have a healthy, creamy alternative? I also use it in place of sour cream......
I'm not a big fan of mustard, so I haven't tried this, but several of my friends mix tuna with mustard. Just a thought... (I saw someone else on here does this with brown mustard, too.)
Salsa!!
I imagine that laughing cow lite cheese would be tasty with tuna. Never tried it but it is creamy and delicious.
I sometimes mix tuna with wasabe and onion. It holds together pretty good and you can put in on crackers or whatever you want.
Basil pesto goes nicely with tuna. Or a small amount of crushed chilli. Cracked pepper and lemon or lime juice also makes a nice paste for tuna sandwiches.
As weird as it sounds, have you tried tuna and mustard? You can use regular yellow mustard, or the spicy kind (my personal favourite). i hate tuna salad with mayo, but Mustard tasted great!
