HATE MYSELF- cant sprint/hills

Quote  |  Reply

i have no idea why....

we did a long run today, and i came in 1st place by a realll long distance.

butttttttttttttt

I just don't get why i'm such a slow person on sprints and hills. I can do more + better squats and lunges than anyone else. along with other circuit moves. its not that i dont have the strength and muscle to do it..... its just that....

Am i missing something?. do i NOT TRY HARD ENOUGH?...... i feel like i am trying hard enough... but when i stop sprinting and see that I'M NOT PANTING LIKE THE OTHER GIRLS, i feel guilty...... so i'll be like, i'll try harder this round- but i still end up lagging behind. @ the end, i had enough energy to go another 4 miles on my own, but no one else did- so i must have not TRIED HARD ENOUGH? or AM I MISSING SOMETHING IN MY WORKOUTS?

i remember doing a tempo run- a fast 2 mile..... this time, i WAS able to run faster... but maybe b/c the teacher was pushing me b/c he was next to me....
but on our fartlek yesterday, i lagged behind........ (fast 3min. runs)x3....... urgg

maybe its a mental thing- i'm not pushing myself hard enough.... i'm not used to running with pain.???? HOW CAN I GET BETTER AT HILLS/SPRINTS?!?! >: [ makes me so frusturated!

What's that they say about running...  It's 90% mental.  You need to develop your mind.  Negative thoughts will hold you back like a ball and chain...  Frown

You will rarely find someone that will win the sprints and also win the distances events at a track meet.  Sprints (and hills) rely on fast twitch muscle fibers.  Distance running uses mostly slow twitch muscle fibers.  It sounds to me like you are a slow twitch kind of person.  That's not to say that you can't improve your sprints and hills by doing training designed for that propose but yes there is very much a mental aspect to pushing yourself to the limit.

er, practice your sprints? fartleks or any intense intervals are great. i used to love jogging the curves and sprinting the straights full out.

do you do hill repeats?  try those.

i guess ill just push myself harder until i'm at that "its so hard to breath" moment :P

If you want, you could try pushing yourself harder. But you might just be better at distance running than sprints.

put the endurance training off for a while and practice short sprints or hills at a low volume. This is not an activity to work your cardio system, it requires POWER so take long rest breaks between reps. Do no more than 3 times a week

i was always a distance girl.  when i stress fractued my femur and tibia and i was limited to spin classes on the bike which is like fast/ hill simulation type thing...  and body pump class.

when i went back to running i was 2 minutes faster per mile (every run even distance) and able to do some sprinting which i dreaded prior...

you do sound like a distance runner.  but look up plans to work on speed/sprinting.
i second the hill repeats.

good luck towards your goals.
