The more you deny yourself something the more you crave it.  Try to get your sugar from fruit, which is much better than you.  You should allow yourself a small treat every now and then to indulge yourself, this way you shouldn't go crazy and eat too much sugar.

I hope this helps!

well i didnt mean cut it out completely im talking, the refined stuff in cakes, cookies, ice cream etc. i would never cut fruit. i completely think we do need a certain amount of sugars, but the natural type. i am a junk food junky that gets caught up in it, im trying to lessen the habit till eventually i dont need to eat a candy bar after lunch and a big bowl of ice cream after dinner
Eat fruit! It does wonders!!

Totally agree with the fruit suggestion.

Also, try tossing all your sugar-laden, overly processed foods. Or leave them as an "anonymous gift" in your lunchroom at work. That's what I did, hehe. A little extreme, I know... I suppose you could always try getting rid of some of the reallybad ones to start with though. I did that about two weeks ago and have been eating lots of fruits, or drinking fruit-flavoured herbal tea when I crave something sweet now.

As strange as it sounds, my new favourite snack is frozen grapes now. The cookies and ice cream I used to want for dessert I don't even give a second glance to. Well, except for special occassions. ;)

Replace sugar with frozen berries. Frozen blueberries are my favourite, they satisfy my cravings for something sweet and make me feel great because, as well as being delicious, they're a superfood. You really should try them.

Whatever you do, don't replace sugar with bananas. They are so addictive. I used to eat 10 a day..
you could go see a Naturopathic Doctor, they can help you find the right supplements to ease your cravings, and make sure you don't have any nutritional deficits which might be causing the cravings.  also, acupuncture works WONDERS with addictions...Good Luck!
thanks!!
I have the same problem, and I actually have a doctors appointment today, I'm going to ask her about this too!
Sugar is indeed an addictive substance! Treat it like any addiciton. First Step...admit you have it. Second step...give it up completely, but one day at a time. You can do for one day what you couldn't imagine doing forever!
thanks krismasself. that was really uplifting!!

so far ive been doing well. although i did allow myself 1 fun sized candy the other day which isnt completely cutting it but its a heck of a lot better then;

breakfast
sugary crap
lunch
sugary crap
dinner
sugary crap

and as much as i crave it. i feel a little better not consuming plus. instead of working sugar in i can actually eat more good stuff :) for far fewer calories!!
