I haven't changed my diet... help!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!

So I have a problem, hoping to get some advise or help! I have been dieting since July. I weighed 170 lbs and finally decided it was time to diet. (I'm 5'9") I weighed 150 last july when I got married and it felt like a healthy weight for me. I stick to between 1200-1400 calories a day. Its been working for me for the past few months. I got down to 153 about 3 weeks ago... ever since then I have steadily been gaining about 2-3 lbs per week, and I haven't changed my diet! What should I do?

See a doctor.  If you haven't changed your diet, or your exercise, you should not be gaining on 1200-1400 a day.  In fact, at your height, you should be eating a lot more than that to lose, let alone maintain.

Maybe your thyroid is crazy, maybe you are pregnant?  Those are 2 possibilities that come to mind if you are sure of your intake.

I keep pretty good tabs on my intake. I dont think I'm pregnant... at least I better not be! =) I started on the depo provera shot a year and a half ago which is the reason behind the weight gain in the first place I believe. But would a thyroid problem come on that fast?

Is the depo provera shot the one that stops your period in a lot of women?  Take a pregnancy test -- just in case.  No form of birth control is 100% effective, and you should probably rule out pregnancy before jumping through hoops trying to figure out what's wrong.  After all, all you have to do is pee on a stick.

It does stop it in some women... Never did for me... I still get my period which is also another reason I dont believe I am pregnant... Plus, even if I was prego, I still dont think I would be gaining 2-3 lbs per week. =)  That would mean I would gain over 100 lbs during pregnancy at that rate... dont think so! =) Anyone have any other advice?

Have you been stressed or felt lethargic?  Sometimes stress can bring on weight gain even when you haven't changed your diet.  If so, try taking a day or even a few hours to do a relaxing activity.  Get a massage or manicure/pedicure.  Get out and play a sport you enjoy to loosen the stress.

Yes a thyroid problem can happen fast, but you'd be freezing cold, depressed, and your skin would be really really dry.
