haven't gotten my period sence become veg.
i've been vegetarian for almost 6 weeks now and im 7 days late on my period. is there any link between changing my diet and being late? i've tested for pregnancy and got a negitive, but im still waiting. i think there was a post about this already but i couldn't find it to see what the responce was. sorry. i also tried searching it, but only came up with people who didn't eat enough or lacked vitamins wich i don't think is the problem here. any input would be great.

Yes there is a link! I think you're probably lacking in protein or good fats, try eating nuts or nut butters?
i am 144lbs and 5'1". i eat 50 gram of protein a day. is it possible to have enough protein without the good fats?
beans beans beans.
but why wouldn't you want the good fats? your body needs them.

oh, thats not what i meant at all. lol. sorry about that. i meant is it possible that even though im getting enough protein, i still may not be getting the good fats that i need?
Have you increased your soy intake dramatically? Soy has a
substance that mimics estrogen and can affect your cycle quite a bit.
no. i realized that i get plenty of protein without soy so i don't use it much. only when i need to subsitute something.
Just to be sure how many calories are you eating a day and if you have an excercize program what is it like? Many people who are right at the minimum of calories and who workout regularly actully need to eat a bit more without realizing it... or so I've heard anyway. Maybe that is the culprit? Good luck figuring things out, sometimes our bodies are just weird. I had a friend in college who went three months without a period and the doctors never did figure out what caused it.
Your period will only occur when your body feels it can spare the energy necessary to release the uterine lining and start over. So if you're cutting calories -- particularly fats -- and increasing exercise, then quite possibly your body thinks it can't spare the energy to create and/or eliminate the uterine lining.
There's nothing in this to do with protein. If you're worried about having lost your period, just increase dietary fats -- especially avocados, walnuts, coconuts, and other healthy whole foods. High protein foods aren't necessarily high enough in fats for your own personal needs.
You could also be facing a magnesium shortage, a zinc shortage, or an iron deficit. But most likely it's simply the energy issue.

i try to eat 1200 a day and i don't exercise. i don't have time. lol. three kids keep me running better than a treadmill and im very active in my housekeeping. i rarely sit except a couple minutes here or there to catch up on my computer, and then i relax when the kids are asleep. i looked over my foods and realized that i don't eat alot of fat period. i never thought that would be a problem, i just really enjoy fresh fruits and veggies. its all i ever want to eat. its hard to even get to 1200 calories because of this. i stuggle each day to do so. so im trying to eat more nuts and such. what can i do with avocados in my cooking? or can you eat them raw? i saw them at the store the other day for the first time.
Yeah sweetie you may just need to eat more calories. Nuts or avocados may be a good thing for you; they'll give you some added (good) fat and they are really calorie dense. I hope you get things figured out. If you are normally very regular in these matters you should think about calling your doc and asking for advise.
