I haven't weighed in over 10 days!

And its killing me.

I used to get on every morning, and it used to sort of keep me online with the my eating.  That worked in reverse too, if I had lost weight I almost made it ok to eat a bit more than I should.

I've recently gotten back into a groove working out (running 45mins/day on the the treadmill at home) and I'm scared that if I get on and the numbers are the same or even up that I will quit running.

Has anyone gone a long time without weighing in?  Should I be weighing to see if this is working or just be happy and healthy and stay off the scales?

There are plenty of people who say that it'll be fine to not weigh-in. It really depends on you.

I like this explanation of weighing in daily, for the exact procrastination reason that you are talking about. This doesn't mean that you need to jump on the scale right away - it's just my preference.

If you are happier not weighing yourself, I think it's fine. But for me, it would just making me anxious, nervous, and in denial if I did start noticing my pants fitting a little tighter.

Ok, well maybe I will be super good and weigh tomorrow. haha.

If I weight myself every day then I get obsessed and it can ruin my whole mood. I also have the same problem that I will eat what I want and not exercise since I lost a few pounds. I'm going to try weighing myself once a week instead. Good luck!

if not weighing yourself is "killing you" then that's a problem. being obsessive about the scale is a waste of time. if you're eating right, staying active and feeling good then that's all that matters. forget the stupid number on the scale, it means nothing. i mean think about.. an inanimate object is affecting what you do (whether you quit running or allow yourself a little more to eat).. does that sound normal? just focus on your happiness and go by how you feel. the scale won't make you lose weight any faster.. instead of wasting valuable time on it, go make yourself a healthy meal or workout! that's productive! i don't weigh myself and i'm still alive.. it's not a big deal.

best of luck! Smile

I used to weight myself everyday and when that needle on the dial, (old fashioned weighing scale) fluctuated i would be disappointed and disheartened.

Now i weigh myself every saturday morning that way i will not become obsessive throughout the week. I have always been told that if you worry constantly about your weight you wont see a difference.

I have been trying to lose weight for 2 months, just lately i have been adapting well to my new healthy eating plan and generally listening to my body and this week i have lost one and a half pounds so it gives me hope.

Amethystgirl-thanks for that explanation. I was just going to post about this. Like when can you safely say "I weigh ---"

I weigh in with a group on Fridays and was 143, Sunday AM I was 146.3 and I was freaking out a bit. It has been a long time to lose a small amount of weight and getting down to 143 feels like quite an accomplishment! GW is 135 (so I can stay under 140)

Anyway, I was going to put off weighing myself until Friday again but due to that link you provided I think I will stick with everyday. Do you post your weight on CC every day too?

Thanks again!

I did when I was actively losing (hence my pretty weight graph as my avatar). I only posted a weight that was taken on my scale (so on weekends when I'd visit my boyfriend I couldn't log, even though his scale reliably made me several pounds lighter).

My feeling is that the trend line is the only thing you should be looking at, and the best trend line comes from daily weigh-ins (although you have every right to quote your "actual weight" as the lowest it's been in the past few weeks, in my opinion)

I know some people like to only weigh once a week, and that's fine if it works for them. People just need to figure out what makes this easiest for their sanity. My rule is - be as calm about a 3 lb gain as a 3lb loss, and you'll be ok weighing every day.

Hi fellow canuck! I stopped weighing myself a while ago (about six weeks) and I'm very glad I did.

I used to weigh myself a couple of times a week. I'd get so upset when I didn't see the results I was expecting - especially if I had been "good" and was expecting to lose and I had gained.  My whole day would be ruinedCry. Finally I decided to stop doing that to myself.

I'm still counting calories and working out.  I can tell I've lost weight because my clothes feel looser and I feel better. In my opinion, how you feel is more important.

I might weigh myself in a couple of weeks "just to see".  Truthfully though, I'm so much happier NOT knowing that I may not do it.

I usually weigh myself once a week.  That way, it's not enough to make you go crazy, gives you something to look forward to, and lets you know if you're falling off track.

how can you go that long with out weighing your self i weight mi self every day like about 5 times a day?

I weigh myself every morning. . . .but I've decided that the only day that my weight counts is Sunday.  It allows me to shrug off the weekly fluctuations in my weight!

Well I should have waited.... or not weighed on a Monday after a long weekend away.  Not the number I wanted to see...

I'm going to stay off it for another two weeks.  I am loving the running and how it makes me feel and I hope the results start to show soon.  As for the number, pfft... its a number.

Thanks for all the replies, I can relate to everyone of you.

deana,

all I know is that my underwear keeps falling down (and it's not because the elastics are broke) and that makes me happy for now - I don't care what I weigh : )

I strongly believe in weekly weigh-ins. No more, no less....its mor accurate and still often enough to know what you're accomplishing :)

I lost 1.1 pounds last week! :) :) :) :)

It's called being lazy, at least for me. I can tell if a few lbs snuck on or off me pretty easily so I don't weigh myself a lot.

i weigh myself everyday and count my "actual" weight as whatever the smallest number was lol so if i'm 241 on monday but 244 on wednesday and then 243 on friday...i only count monday! Laughing

I don't know if this is good advice or not, because apparently it's not good to be obsessive about scales...

but from my own experience I lost weight once, and it really helped weighing myself every day and stuff. And then I got to the weight I wanted and I stopped weighing myself and tried to keep healthy without restricting or counting calories or anything. Well, a few months pass, and when I finally weighed myself again, guess what happens... I'm fat again! :( And that's why I'm here...

so that's why I would say that If I were you I'd keep on weighing myself, weekly or something.

haha thats funny i weight my self every morning night and in between i get really agravated if it goes up! but latly its been saying the same witch iam agrivasted buy to because i want it to go down but on the good side its not goin up. i have to weight my self every day it keeps me in line with my weight

Your only supposed to weigh yourself once a week, at the same time, best early in the AM.  weighing yourself every day gives you false readings, water weight, and undigested food.

i do weight my self in the moarning also but i feel the need to weight my self way more
