havinge a little sweets
Hello everyone I am new to calorie count and would like to say hi. I was wondering is it ok to have something sweet everyday. For example I have been having either a half of cupcake or 1 cookie or 3 bites of cake everyday. I would like to know if that is too much I really don't want to deny myself. Let me know what you think.
If I'm in the mood, I allow myself around 100 calories per day for a treat of some sort. If I want something rich, like cake or whatnot, I save that for special occasions. But I'll have something like a sugar-free jello pudding, or a sugar-free popsicle, or 100 calorie pack. It keeps it low in calories, but allows me to not feel like I'm depriving myself of something sweet all the time.
I think as long as you're not killing your calorie goals for the day, have at it! You should indulge sometimes. It doesn't sound like you would be doing any substantial amount of damage with just a few bites. The thing you have to remember is that healthy eating is a lifestyle, not just a temporary diet. You don't want to be unrealistic and too restrictive when "dieting" or you'll probably gain it all back. You have to learn to (1) eat healthy foods that make you feel good and (2) portion control. It sounds like you have that part down. Welcome and good luck. :)
If you feel like you are completely depriving yourself then you will not be able to maintain your calorie goals for any significant period of time (Well, maybe you could, but I know I could not). So, I never consider any particular food to be completely off limits. I allow myself a treat every day, in fact I have three "dessert" items that I choose from. In my case I have lime popsicles, green tea pudding and hot cocoa...all of them are yummy and they make me feel like I am not depriving myself of life's little food rewards.
I had hershey kisses and a mini mounds today....keeps me sane haha. I go a little too crazy with sweets sometimes, but its in my genes! My grandma loves her sweets, as does my mom. Joking (I know this is not a real excuse haha)-but seriously my gma will skip dinner for dessert any day. i do that too sometimes...not the best idea I know, but Idk, it works for me which I think is the most important thing.
So I say go for it.
No, there is nothing wrong with having something sweet. But three bites of cake would just drive me nuts wanting more. As long as you are within your calorie goal for the day if you are dieting, you will be fine. It really is no different than me putting sugar in my ice tea because I just want something sweet tasting. I feel a little guilty sometimes, but you have to have something every once in awhile.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. It has helped me.
