If the headache is related to your change in lifestyle, it could be one of four things:
- Your not drinking enough water.
- Your not eating enough. (Seriously, 1200 cals is too low for most people, and if you're doing serious cardio, you probably need more.) Check your deficit, and make sure its between about 500-750.
- It could be the hoodia.
- You might not be sleeping as well/enough. If this is the case, it is probably related to one of the above.
I am not taking anything. Not even vitamins right now. I have been suffering with headaches. I think it may just be our bodies adjusted to the different foods and the amount of foods. Don't be surprise if your stomache hurts. This means it is shrinking.
Thanks for the reply...I drink tons of water, always have. Rule out that one. I am 5'1 and that is what this site told me to eat...1250 actually, so I think that is right. My question is, by deficit do you mean that amount of calories that I take in subracted from the amount that I burn? This is new to me, not sure of the lingo.
Thanks!
Christie
yup, thats what I mean by deficit. And remember that the number CC gives is an estimate. And depending on what setting you used (sedintary, light activity, etc.) will depend on whether or not you should eat back any calories exercised.
And I've never heard of stomach pain being caused by the stomach shrinking...so fineness, you may want to bring that up to your doctor (I'm no expert, but haven't heard of that problem...I have heard of stomach pains caused by gas caused by an increase in fiber though!)
have you stopped drinking caffeine? that would cause it :D
oh good! LOL an increase in fiber can cause stomach pain? i wondered if that's what i get now & then. i usually don't get much fiber, but i'm trying. sometimes i get a lot & wonder why my stomach hurts & i get that bloated feeling
Well from my stand point..I have been dieting for four days, I am eating 3/4 less than i used to, I cut my calorie intake from around 3000 cal to 1300 cal a day, drinking 8-10 glasses of water daliy and have moderate exercise that just woprks up a light sweat, I never get enough sleep its impossible, i have a four year old daughter and I am a full time RN. The first two days I have suffered from the same headache, which i like to call it "the calorie shock headache", because your body is in short of a shock because you cut major calorie intake...it will take a few days for your body to adjust, but make sure your drinking plenty of water especially if your eating those prepackaged diet meals like lean cuisine and weight watcher meals and exercise daily, if not exercising and eating prepackaged meals you will retain salt even if drinking the required 8 glasses oif water a day...
The hoodia is a NO NO, any kinda of weight loss supplement is bad for your health, they usually spead up heart rates in a bad way and cause over exertion, heart murmurs, dehydration ( which can cause heachaches), heart attacks, and other health problems...
by the way did i mention I am 27 5' 9" and weigh 200 lbs but by may i will have gotten myself back on the healthy track and weigh my goal weight of 145 lbs...
together we can do it...keep up your good work and anyquestions you have feel free to ask...

I tend to think that the weight loss supplements are a waste of money, but some people like them. I think you'd be better off taking a multi-mineral and a multi-vitamin to remind yourself that you're attempting to lose weight.
At 5'1", 1200 calories should be fine, if you get just a bit of exercise, the weight should start to come off. The more whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies that you incorporate into your diet the happier your body is likely to be with you.
Calories burned from existing and exercise - calories eaten = Deficit if you use more than you eat or Surplus if you use less than you eat.
roxygirl28: It looks to me like you've made a drastic change and I'm not surprised that your body punished you for it. 3000 calories down to 1300 is a major change. If you've gotten over your headache, then you're fine from that point of view. At 5'9", I'd really recommend eating a bit more, closer to 1500-1800 calories especially given that you do get some exercise and are chasing after a 4 year old. I get 2300 calories as your maintenance using only light activity.
thanks smwhipple..I know its kind od a big deficit in calires, but in order to loose weight you first shock your body, im supposed to eat 1326 calories, in order to be 145lbs by july 20th, I think at first it was a shock, but i have no longer been getting headaches and the lbs are flying off, i dont go to the gym everday, my job is on my feet all day for 15 hours three days a week at most, and yes my days off are chasing a four year old..if i could go to the gym and will shortly fit that into my schedule, i prolly would be losing more than 6 lbs a week, and that cant be healthy, so for now....I thank you for your advice, and yes my calories do range from 1300-1800, and have light activity. thanks again, hope your doing well, you seem to have this down to a science, which is great for us newbees.
