Ugh I would LOVE to have just one day without a headache. I used to get headaches 5-7 days a week, but that stopped for a bunch of years and then this month I got a chest cold and was taking a lot of ibuprofen and coughing a lot and now I am getting headaches every day. I think it's a "rebound" headache from the medicine, but I don't know what to do for it other than suffer. I want to work out but I can't get off my butt feeling this way. I can't imagine bouncing around with a headache. Anyone know what can be done for headaches without drugs? I could take more pain killers but that just prolongs the cycle.

I don't know, but if you find a remedy other than drugs I'd love to know. I've suffered from chronic headaches/migraines for more than a decade now. All but a couple weeks of the last 11 years have been headache-free.

Another chronic migraine/headache-er here. I have been for as long as I can remember.

My advice is to see a neurologist so you can get prescribed something... of course, the drugs never helped me, but hopefully it'll do something for you =]


I'm to the point where I'm just used to always having a headache & I just deal with them.

I've struggled with migraines most of my life.  One way I try to avoid rebound headaches is to generally rely on one medicine, and then try another when I've been using the same medicine for a while.

Caffeine helps me a great deal with true migraines.  It makes most other headaches worse.

Seeing a neurologist is nice because you can get better medicine than you can get OTC.  But the BIGGEST thing a neurologist will do for you is make you do a headache journal, which you can do yourself.  You just write down what you were doing, what you had eaten, what the weather was like, where you were in your cycle, etc.  Then you look for trends.  I know that I need to avoid chocolate and ripe cheeses.  I know I'll get a migraine whenever a major front comes through, etc.

Another thing that really helps is to keep a set schedule.  Wake at the same time, eat at the same time, go to bed at the same time.

Generally, avoid the chocolate and cheese as mentioned above. I know that in the summers, going in and out of buildings from the cold to heat to cold to heat .... you get the point.... gives me a lot of headaches. My mom says taking a half of a B complex vitamin helps her with her headaches. I would really suggest seeing a doctor because headaches can be warning signs for more serious problems. I don't mean to alarm you, but brain aneurisms are one of those potentially bigger problems. I would ask about it. 5-7 headaches a week is excessive.

I'm a migraine sufferer too -  I would see a neurologist because you are having so many.  Some natural supplements are magnesium and feverfew to prevent headaches - sex is good for migraines, and look into Reiki.  Its a totally relaxing experience and most alternative medicine places would be able to send you in the direction of a Reiki Master. ( don't be fooled by the term, my reiki master is a mom of one of my students not some big buddah person - my migraines have definetly subsided with her help - I'm still trying to get the right cocktail of meds to stop mine all together! ) Good luck!

My headaches are worse and happen more often when I'm tired and dehydrated. I'm sure you know this, but make sure you are drinking enough water!

I had headaches (BIG!) almost every day for over a year until I accidentally found out that it was artificial sweeteners causing them. Once I found out what it was and tested that theory I thought if I went without for awhile then maybe I wouldn't be so sensitive. The opposite happened though. If I even drink a little crystal light my head pounds!
