I've had persistent headaches for the past several days and I'm wondering if it has to do with my new eating habits. I am prone to headaches, but haven't had them in a while. I've cut back dramatically on my sugar intake, could this be the reason?
have you cut back on caffeine? that happened to me when I started cutting caffeine out because I went through withdrawel
I cut out cokes cold turkey a couple of years ago and the first couple of weeks I had huge headaches but I think it was from the lack of all the sugar that cokes have in them. I think I became almost dependant on the sugar in the cokes and to let go of that cold turkey it was not nice. Give it a couple of days to a week and they should go away. If I am missing something please someone let me know.
OMG, I have the worst headache right now...I made it all the way through the day with no significant source of caffiene. So now I am sipping on my espresso before I begin to study. I was hoping that cutting back on the caffiene was the problem and that a nice dose would help.
I am not trying to remove caffiene from my diet but I am trying a major reduction in soda which removes most caffiene from my diet.
I don't drink coffee, so I'm not sure how much caffeine I used to consume. I did eat a lot of chocolate though, so maybe that is where I was getting caffeine?
I gave up caffeine years ago and I still remember the withdrawal. I finally had to do it gradually. I remember horrible headaches and falling asleep in my chair. I'd take a few sips of coffee and I'd feel great again. It took me a week to kick the habit.
Yep, sounds like withdrawal symptoms..
Could it be dehydration? Sometimes not drinking enough water will do that too. I had the same thing last week with the caffeine withdrawl though. It was awful. Even if it is caffeine, try upping your water intake. It may help take more of the edge off.

Hey: I didn't read all the posts complete, but I have been getting what I call "borderline headaches" since I started on my new "lifestyle" last week. I suffer from constant headaches that are very very painfull, almost migrane like. The headaches I have been getting since last week I ahve had before when I went on a detox. I asked my doctor and he said it could be a sideeffect of the detox ... that is my body getting rid of all of the free radicals, and toxins. You body will detox naturally when you start eatiing healthy and natural foods and drinking more water. What he said was to keep hydrated.
Hope this helps.
Have you reduced your carb intake? You could be going through Ketosis which is when your body is burning fat, which is a good thing of course!! Take an aspirin and hang in there!
I get headaches if I don't drink enough water ... so look at how much water you're drinking. The other symtom that others have mentioned is the caffeine withdrawal, which may be from diet soda if you don't drink coffee.
When I quit soda I got terrible withdrawl from it. Thinking back on it I think it was worse than quitting smoking for me. I was still drinking morning coffee even, but just cutting down on the caffiene did it. I used to drink like 6 diet cokes a day.
I get pretty bad headaches too. I quit drinking soda completely 3 years ago....I really never drank that much but felt it would help with weight loss...so I never really experienced headaches from caffeine withdrawals. Have you considered that your headaches may be linked to stress? I'm pretty sure that is what mine is. Also, I know that my headaches are not near as bad or often when I am eating healthy.
my headaches (mostly in the afternoon) started a few weeks ago when i started a 7-day detox diet (vegan, mostly organic, no refined starches or sugars). i don't believe it was related to caffeine withdrawal as i continued drinking coffee (as recommended to 'wean' myself off of it), just drinking slightly less every day. now that i am no longer on the detox, my headaches show up maybe twice a week. i can't help but think it is linked to the change in my diet, since i am now eating much more healthfully and no other factor has changed. the headaches also tend to show up when i have been eating particularly low-calorie, such as fruit + lean protein for breakfast and veggies + lean protein for lunch.
dehydration is not an issue (i drink at least 8 glasses of water/day), sun exposure is not an issue. i rarely drink soda or eat chocolate, so it can't be other sources of caffeine, either.
why would a decrease in empty calories trigger headaches?
I am looking for an answer to this myself ~ I've been eating much more healthfully, very similar to what you are describing, and I've started these headaches for the last two days. I'm not hydrating much so I'm going to try that tomorrow and hope it helps. Yuck!! Hope yours have decreased since you posted this!
