Hello everyone-

I've been counting my calories for a little while now (probably about 3/4 weeks)... I'm trying to stick to around 1200-1300, although some (bad) days I go over... Not only have I ONLY lost about 3 pounds, but...

I constantly have headaches, and feel nauseous.. pretty much everyday.. the headaches every day for sure... is there something wrong do you think? Or could this be related to something else?

I'm just wondering if any of you have had/ are having this same experience. Thanks :)

I have a job that requires little or moderate activity and when I first started using calories as a way to monitor my food intake I also went for a 1300 top range.  I found on days where I was working I would get headaches and such once I upped my caloric intake to 1500 - 1700 everything went away.

For me upping my calories solved all the sympotoms.

 Good Luck

Are you makeing sure to drink lots of water? And try to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need.
Just out of curiosity, have you maybe switched to an artificial sweetener (such as Splenda or Equal, etc.) in order to try to help reduce calories?  These things give some people terrible constant headaches, as well as other negative side effects.  Not everyone, but they do affect some people this way (I'm one of them).  Just reducing calories can, in and of itself, of course affect how you feel, so it may be just that.  If so, if you are getting enough calories a day FOR YOU, then those feelings should gradually subside.  If you're newly using any artificial sweeteners or lots of products containing them, you might want to back off on those for awhile and see how you feel.  Good luck!
rwisneski- I have a sit-on-my-bottom type of job... Staring at the computer screen for 8 hours+ a day could be a cause of my headaches, but that doesn't help solve the nausea portion- I think I should find a doctor on my insurance plan, and find out what is wrong...

alyssandra- I try and drink plenty of water at work- at home, I'm not so good... but definitely at work...

jdbcmt - For years now I've been using artificial sweetner- mainly Splenda... it has really "affected" me, or at least I don't think it has... thanks for the advice though... It's just weird because at any second I feel like I could get sick, or put my head down and sleep. My fiance says I'm driving his crazy, because everyday I say the same things "i don't feel good"... etc...

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go see a doctor-- I don't think I should feel this poorly all the time... thanks for your reponses everyone :) i appreciate you willing to help me out :)

it could also be withdrawl from caffeine, or carbs, or that you are not eating enough.  I get those same symptoms when i dont eat enough..

Rena:)

My calorie count is 1600, but I've kept it at 1300 5 out of 7 days, and I had the same experience. It goes away. I think it's a detox of some sort. Dieting is painful, I concluded, which is why people don't do it very well.

Drink LOTTTTTTSSSS of water, though. That's what is causing the headaches. Also, if you are going to eat so little, you should probably switch to tea, if you're drinking coffee. No more sugar drinks, either. tea with honey should be your new best friend.

i had this too when i first started dieting, before I came to CC.  i had headaches every day, so tired and fatigued, felt sickly.... not losing much weight and feeling oh so frustrated about it.

according to the profile CC set up for me, i wasn't eating enough daily calories.  now i eat about 500 more cals than i used to and i feel GREAT every day and am losing weight at a more regular/steady pace.

i hope this helps, and if not.... i would suggest seeing your physician for tips.

When food intake is severely restricted( below 1200 calories) the body begins to adapt to this state of poor nutrition by shutting down its metabolic rate, potentially making it even mmore difficult to lose weight.  It is also possible to experience hunger pains, headaches and mood changes from overly stringent dieting.  (MEDICINE NET.COM)/WEIGHT LOSS -- ALL KINDS OF INTERESTING THINGS   LOOK AT FIBER & PROTEIN...EDUCATIONAL           : )

yah.... to the last poster- i don't go below 1200 cals

thanks

When I first started out counting calories I got headaches a lot. I was eating 1500 a day. Over the course of several months they slowly tapered off, and now I don't get very many.

Now I get the nausea when I eat bad food. I completely cut out all cooking oil, and if I have it I get sick to my stomach. Now sure why.

I would give it a little time and go from there. Your body may just need to adjust to your new diet.
