Headaches...Only After Lowering Calories

Quote  |  Reply

Since starting this lower calorie diet this past week, I have experienced headaches EVERY day. Which only adds to the cranky mood I seem to be in. I don't drink caffeine, nor did I prior to the diet, so it's not lack of caffeine.

Prior to starting this diet, I ate dairy, in the form of string cheese, EVERY DAY. At least 3 pieces. Now, besides an occasional yogurt, I don't consume any dairy. Anyone know of a link between the two? (PS: I can't drink milk, ever since my gastric bypass, it gives me an awful bellyache).

Thanks for anything you can offer.

Sugars are culprits like caffine... Cola products have both sugar and caffine, if you drank them.

If I want to fast for a day, for a spiritual reason, I reduce my coffee and sugars before I do. Starches and starchy snacks act as sugars to your body, as well as actual sugar. Milk sugar is another source, if you ate much? Doesn't seem so!Tongue out

However, they wouldn't cause a sugar or caffine headache for a week, for me, so I wonder if it could be a allergy? The fall flowers are blooming here in south Mississippi, (rag weed!), and I had a whopping headache yesterday, when we opened the house to enjoy the fresh air...lol!

Sorry for your week of misery! Hope it passes quickly! Smile

Anybody else?

You may get better responses in another forum, like weight loss or health and support.

It would need to be a new topic, (written again, differently!), as double posts aren't allowed, but old-timers are more apt to have answers for you!

Hope somebody else can help you better! Tongue out

Are you replacing the dairy with anything, like soymilk?  Soy is a common migraine trigger, so if you have upped your soy intake that might be the culprit.

Also, if you are not getting enought fluids you may be getting headaches from dehydration.  Or if you replaced sugary drinks with those containing artificial sweetners, those have been known to cause headaches in sensitive individuals as well.

Could you be dehydrated? that's how I get all my headaches.
I don't know.  Actually I had headaches but I also gave up diet coke so I attributed it to that.  But I had severe headaches and optical migraines for about a week.  I hadn't thought of it being food related as well.  It lasted a week.  well, I take that back, it lasted longer but they were severe for about 4 or 5 days then after that it became a mild headahce for a few days then it went away.  I'm cranky all the time.. j/k
Also id you changed your diet really suddenly like went really healthy then it could be a symptom of detox or something?  I honestly don't know but I had headaches too and just attributed it to caffeine withdrawl and never thought of a low calorie connection.

I found this thread through searching the topic because . . .

I experienced the EXACT SAME thing! When I cut calories to lose weight I found myself having headaches EVERY day starting at 2:30 and they wouldn't let up. I went through the headaches for 7-10 days in a row. I also experienced CRANKINESS! Even before I would get the headache I would want to slap half the people I spoke to. And that's not normally me. I'm a laid back person but since I've cut my calories I have a quicker temper.

Did you ever get any advice that helped?
