The fans of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and their Fox buddies should be so proud that they've helped to rile up dangerous, violent, parnoid wingnuts.  It looks like lynchings are back in style  When will the first shots be fired?  What did you think would happen folks?  Did you think all they were going to do is yell and disrupt town hall meetings?

Census Worker Hanged: FED written on his chest

The census benefits us all and is what decides how many seats in the House are allocated.  It's a part of American democracy at work.  The paranoia about government is nonsense.  I'm just sick over this.

This is truly dispicable.  And while I don't disagree with you on the aforementioned group riling things up, whoever did this to poor Mr. Sparkman is clearly disturbed.  I think people like that could get riled up over anything and everything.

I watched a guy go nuts in my bank back in May over ATM fees that caused his account to be -$30. He threatened the tellers plus another customer and I when we asked him to please stop cursing and yelling.  (I didn't enjoy being court with him later on either.  He is one off the wall person.)

I think some people have very, very short triggers and/or cannot deal with anything amiss.  Not comparing the two of course, as Mr. Sparkman's death is at the extreme end of the spectrum.  Just citing a recent example I witnessed where clearly someone was not mentally with it. To get that crazy over $30 when it was his fault to begin with is beyond my comprehension of normal behavior.

Extrapolate that out and you have someone killing another perons due to road rage or whatever flight of fancy their brain goes on when "provoked".   Certain facets of our society will be prone to this sort of behavior no matter who says or does what/when.  Doesn't make it right, of course, but I don't think we can blame the media or anyone for someone else's stupid, senseless behavior.

The killer is definitely deranged.  Just like that guy recently who killed the pro-life protestor.  There are nutcases on both sides of the aisle.

that is wretched. poor guy was probably out of work and took it as a temporary gig just to make ends meet. sad to see so much anger taken out on innocents.

The killer is obviously a nut job.  Blaming anyone other than the killer is ridiculous.  Crazy people will do crazy things.

You are absolutely right.  I was shocked at that killing and by the shootings in Pennsylvania and DC, by right wing fanatics.  I couldn't help but think that all the anger being encouraged by hate groups and right wing talking heads has brought out the crazies and given them just enough validation to set them off.   When we have protestors bringing guns to rallies, then it's only a matter of time before one of them is set off.  Here's why, just a few headlines from here and there.

Breathtaking Hatred

Mt Vernon says no to Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck Conspiracy Theory

President Attacked

These men know that there are plenty of people who are either mentally deficient, brain washed, or out and out crazy, and they play to them and egg them on.  Tell a lie often enough and it will be believed to be true.

Meanwhile, the 70 or 80% of us who are not crazy are losing hope of ever seeing real progress or peace.

It could also be a suicide.

Just throwing that out there. *toss*

Terrific response!  Thank you.

It could just have easily been the left-leaning media which comprises most of what's on TV.  Or, it could have been neither.  As was previously stated by lysistrata, "There are nutcases on both sides of the aisle."

Ah yes, but it has been the right wing that has been totally villifying the census. And the supposed "left leaning media" hasn't been spreading fear and lies about the census either.

Here's a more in depth article from

I've named the right wing media I think are fommenting violence.  Why don't you provide us with some links to left leaning media sources who are doing the same.  Show us.

I love how everyone is so apt to blame the media. There is so little personal responsibility left in the world today. I think someone has to be pretty off their rocker for the "TV" to convince them of something so scary and malevolent that the only suitable course of action is murder. Perhaps this person was just deranged. Have you ever been to clay county KY? I have been in a lot of rural KY and I can say that there are some whackos that isolate themselves out there. ISOLATION does amazing things to the psyche.

Or like another poster said. He could have just killed himself.

I'd be apt to agree with you if in the recent months there hadn't been some right wing media people (and a right wing congresswoman) fomenting fear of the census.  The fact of the matter is, the media has a responsibility to spread information, not lies.  When it is used to spread fear and lies (like has been done with census), it is important to take into account how that message has been received.  Sure, the person who did this must be crazy, but it is entirely possible that his/her actions were also driven by the intense fear that has been drilled into him/her by the right wing media.  Propaganda can do a LOT of amazing things to the psyche as well, and to discount it is dangerous.

I guess you didn't watch all the coverage of encouragement for gun toting protesters.  Are all those people crazy, or have they believed the lies they've heard?  Here's video

And my bet is on a lynch mob.  It can't be easy to hang someone without help.  The man was a cancer survivor working towards a degree in teaching.  Why would he kill himself?  Also, this happened on Sept 12, a significant date for all the right wingnuts.  If Federal authorities are investigating, then it's thought to be a Federal crime.  If it was thought to be a suicide, local authorities would have handled it.

It sounds like he was found on September 12th, and the reports say his body was starting to decompose, so I'd be willing to say it happened before that day.  In any case, it doesn't seem to have been a suicide.  The above Washington Post article said that they are considering it an "apparent homicide".

If you are in doubt that certain people from the right have been spreading fear of the census, just look at this link

Then why are sooooo many people believing the lies being spewed out by the right wing media?

I've been to Clay County. I went to university near there. There are a lot of ignorant, small-minded people there (esp. the rural areas) and people like that are more subject to believe lies that fall in line with their already twisted ideas.
