Health Benefits of Sprouted Nuts - Question

Quote  |  Reply

My sister works at a health food store part time, and as part of my Christmas present sent me some sprouted almonds. They're very good - nice and crunchy and not too salty. Does anyone know if there are health benefits of sprouted nuts over roasted nuts? I'm guessing because they came from a health food store there must be some extra benefit. Laughing

Anyone know where I can find them, besides in a health food store. Does Whole Foods carry them?

The living 'sprout' part contains quite a lot of extra nutritional benefits ... enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants. Like having a whole plant in one very small shoot.

I've never tried sprouting nuts but beans, lentils and other seeds are really easy to sprout yourself.  Soak overnight in water.  Rinse and drain the next day.  Leave in a ventilated glass jar, rinsing/draining twice daily until the sprouts appear.   If you were to sprout nuts you'd need the raw kind, obviously.

You can sprout grains, seeds and legumes. A good guide is here, and I think it was somewhere else on these forums that I found a link to it.

Almonds are commonly referred to as a nut, but they are actually a seed.

Thanks for the link - I'll have to try that.
