before you became health-conscious..
before you started calorie-counting or knew anything about health, what was your typical afterschool snack(s)?
mine was like pizza, bowls of cereal, fruit and chocolate bars from the vending machine at school. what about you?
I remember I used to eat any- and everything when I got home from school...I ate honestly whatever looked appealing to me at the time. And my house used to be (I'm in college now) filled to the brim with junk food because my stepdad was so stubborn and wouldn't eat anything else, so I pretty much lived on that stuff for years.
My favorite were cereal...I love cereal, chips, leftovers, candy, and bagels...these were the good days, when things used to be simple! lol
Now when I get back to my dorms I usually munch on an apple...
I'd have 3+ slices of pizza, bagels, pretzels and cream cheese, massive amounts of chocolate, icecream, cookies, huge muffins...
well...let's just say i WAS a stoner, friends....
and after school, i'd bake an ENTIRE bag of pizza rolls...the 45 count bag, and eat it with ranch dressing in ONE sitting. some of my other faves were, creamy chicken oodles o noodles with cheese and hot sauce, pace picante salsa with melted shredded cheese...and i'd eat about 2 cups of it at a time. lots and lots of cherry coke. hot pockets. whole milk. boxes of cereal in two days. oreos and chocolate chip cookies...and like some other people, i'd fill up a glass of milk and eat the cookies until the milk was gone...and then top it off with another glass to drink by itself.
wendy's $1 menu was also a favorite choice....because it was cheap, close to the house, and good for when you had the munchies.
even after high school...when i'd had a kid...i used to eat happy meals from mc donalds 3-5 times a week for lunch...and i collected the toys and placed them on my desk at work. at one time, i remember having more than 100 happy meal toys on my desk. not to mention that i'd get sweet and sour sauce to dip my fries in.
i was never HUGE, though. i think my highest weight was 145 and i'm 5'7.
since the dollar menu days...i've gotten down to 125 lbs.
I cant remeber, I had alot im a fatty, seriously, Its been 2 months and im still with a BMI of 26.5 Stupid BMI's! I think I'd normally have : A gronola bar or Pudding, Half a bag of chips, Probably another Gronola Bar, and Supper (A normal day from 3 pm - 11 pm before being health consious) So that is like 110 + 110 + 500 or more + 500 = 1220 Or More.... WOAH!! FATTY! Now it's supper (330 cals) and maybe a gronola bar (110)
Ignorance is bliss, eh?!! Some favourites that I used to love were bagels with lots of cream cheese and jam. Bagels are definitely more of a treat now, although Weight Watchers has a great whole wheat bagel for 150 calories, 5 grams of fibre, and 9 grams of protein.
And my grandma's homemade raisin bread toasted with lots of butter....sweet and yummy carbs! I used to eat a lot of ice cream too, as much as half a package of Breyer's oreo chunk ice cream in one day...
It's a wonder I topped out at 140 lb and 5' 2" but I guess that's cause I have always liked being active.

You know what makes me sad? That used to be the standard calorie count for a bagel about 50 years ago.
Pretty off topic, but yeah.
I used to be such a cow. I'd eat entire sleeves Oreos, entire bags of tortilla chips and jars of salsa... yeah, I was into consuming "entire" things. It was bad...
Oh my god, during middle school I was a total pig. The cafeteria food was absolutely HORRIBLE for me, but I would eat it anyway, and I usually skipped breakfast. So by the time I got to lunch, I was STARVING. I would get the greasy pizza with french fries, and then I would buy 3 cookies for a snack. Sometimes I even bought two servings of cookies, which was 6 of them! They were really yummy and were made fresh, but they were probably like 200 calories a cookie! I can't believe I never even thought twice about buying them. And besides that I would come home and eat chips and all sorts of junk when I did my homework, and then my parents would take me out for greasy fast-food. YUCK. I'm so glad I finally decided to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
umm... EVERYTHING. 2 boxes of mac&cheese, whole pizzas, massive bowls of cereal, bagels, blueberry muffins, full jars of oreo cookies, pumpkin bread, sandwiches w/ chips, etc etc.
not worrying about gaining weight was amazing :\
It's been a while since I had one of those days, but I'm pretty sure it was everything that is currently expelled from my pantry! A quick list...
- spaghetti - two portions at least, with lots of cheese and bread for dipping in the extra sauce!
- popsicles - I'd eat half of a box. They were just basically those Dora the Explorer popsicles shaped into stars or whatever. They weren't even good, I'd just totally overeat on them.
- bagels with cream cheese. LOTS of cream cheese. And sometimes maybe more than one bagel.
- If there were tortilla chips and salsa in the house at the same time, at least half of a bag would be gone!
- Starbucks frappucinos! I used to scorn those who opted for the light versions, but now I don't even like going near those!
Oh, and any grains I mentioned were white. I spurned anything wheat. Seems like it was harder for me to gain weight then, too. Now I could gain so easily, but back then not much would happen! Almost like if you're not worried about it, it doesn't happen.
I used to stay after school a lot for Drama so on those days I'd go to the vending machines and spend the rest of my lunch money on chocolate and sweets.
Otherwise, I'd have a bowl of cereal or a chocolate spread sandwich.
We were never really allowed to have biscuits and stuff in the house so I guess I should be grateful for that otherwise I would have been far worse. Sometimes I'd make cookies and eat the entire batch ![]()

well when i was in 9th grade i could eat pretty much whatever i wanted....we used to have a GREAT cafeteria, it was like gourmet food. man their french fries were great, even better than mcdonalds. i can picture myself eating plates and plates of them every day in addition to whatever i had for the main meal (which would be like sushi, or pizza w/ vegetables grown at the school, or crab cakes etc.)....good memories. now i dont dare eat french fries again.
ice cream!!! i used to eat about three bowls per day... :|
Typically a bowl of sugary cereal and milk, or a package of poptarts.
I'm now horrified by what I used to eat before watching my diet! For snack I used to make cheese burritos covered in chocolate syrup and I used to sometimes drink 3 or 4 glasses of grape juice a day. The grape juice alone amounts to over 500 calories! When ever I had macaroni and cheese, I would often end up eating a whole box which is around 1000 calories. Just today, I realized that my typical meal I used to get at McDonalds amounts to over 1500 calories. I knew my eating habits were bad, but I never knew they were that horrible for you. I can also never go to an all-you-can-eat buffet without feeling ashamed at the 4 platefuls I used to often get of macaroni and fried chicken, topped with a bowl of pudding and ice cream. And I never even knew that just one plate of the stuff set me way over my daily calorie rate!
usually whatever leftovers we had (and not healthy ones either. more like leftover pizza or rice or fast food), or i'd order fried "chicken nuggets" from the Chinese food place, sometimes with french fries. other popular choices were Friday's potato skins, huge glasses of chocolate milk, half a sleeve of Chips Ahoy cookies with milk, potato chips, chocolate, poptarts, fast food from anywhere, huge blueberry or chocolate chip muffins.
hahah, oy vey.
Chips Ahoy Cookies w/ Whole Milk (My mom would only allow me 4 cookies ;])
Hershey Chocolate Bar w/ Almonds
Almond Joy Milk Chocolate bar
A GIANT BOWL of Green Grapes
Chips (Most likely Doritos and Fritos)
Huge Bowls of Sugary Kid Cereal (Cocoa Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Honey Combs)
I used to eat loads of **** like chocolate, probably alot of chips, a whole meal of rice. UGHH.
Ah the good old days. :) Regular coke with brownies, and potato chips.
I can't even remember, I became health conscious within a few months of sixth form, I can remember buying crunchies and tasters from the vending machines at school a few months before, i began, but once at sixth form i didn't really buy food, I just ate at home.
