Healthcare Materials Manager
Hi, I have been a Materials Manager for a small hospital for 30 years. I started out as an assistant in Purchasing, and gradually moved into the Director's role. I love my job. It's a great feeling knowing that what you do and how well you do it is reflected in the sucessful treatment of patients with quality, economical supplies and equipment.
However, as I am sure you all know, with these jobs there is a price to pay. The stress level can be very high. Balancing the demands of physicians, nurses, and administrators is very difficult. When I began my career 30 years ago I was 21 years old and a healthy 120 lbs. Now 30 years later and double the wegiht....need I say more!
So, here I am. Joining Calorie Count for the first time. Just happened upon the web site tonight while surfing the web. (Should have been working out on my treadmilll...but didn't have the motivation).
I am new and pumped to live a healthier lifestyle. Looking forward to meeting those of you who share in my daily work challenges as well as lifestyle challenges.
Hi Dave, it's good to see you on here. What are your goals for weight loss? Stats?
How is purchasing at a director level in this climate? Luckily you are right that purchasing have a direct impact on any business so at work we haven't seen any head cuts, just harder KPIs and higher savings to make!!
I am at buyer / senior buyer level in the Agriculteral industry, I moved from Automotive after 4 years of travelling, stress, chasing logistics at all hours of the morning to here, where I can (at the moment anyway) hit my targets whilst working 9-5. I loved the stress and the highs most of the time, but 4 years was enough.
