Hi
I have found I am quite good at coming up with low calorie snacks that are tasty and cheap. If you get stuck let me know and I will see if I can send you some ideas, let me know what you like though and what you won't eat.
Some ideas are:
* Splendip - cream cheese, salsa & nachos that cost 99p and I find will do me for lunch at work and only 147 calories
* Muller Light Yoghurts - the new ones with chocolate are fantastically tasty and around 150 calories with chocolate in them!
I always found that Splendips had extremely high salt content. x: My mum used to munch them a lot but when she got told to watch her salt due to her high BP, she discovered the salt was very high.
Have you tried hummus and crudites?
I love finding new healthy snacks. I've got a nice variety, but I wouldn't mind having more. I'm not much of a salty or peanut butter fan, but my new years resolution was to try new foods (trying to grow out of being a picky eater), so I'm up for any ideas :)
my all time fave "guilty" snack is sugarfree jello with fruit mixed in and cool whip free. You feel like you are eating the biggest most guilty snack ever and if you prtion it oit its like 55 calories for a serving.
Fruit are an obvious healthy snack but something like banana on toast isn't too bad for you provided you don't add sugar and it is quite filling.
Jordan's Go Ahead Yoghurt Covered Breaks are fantastic and only 180 calories for 2 of them. I find these are great for me in the morning as I am not a breakfast person and they contain real fruit.
Walkers have brought out a new Baked Crisp called Mango Chilli and each bag is less than 100 calories (little bag) and they are scrummy and 70% less fat than a standard crisp. Easy way to reduce some fat and calories without completely cutting out
Here is a simple dinner idea if you hate doing the dishes.
Get some tinfoil and cut a square about 10cm by 10cm. On it place some sharwoods ready noodles, put on a piece of pork loin, then some sliced carrot, large diced mushroom, sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds, sultanas and spinach (big handful).
Mix up some olive oil, chopped chilli, ginger, garlic and soya sauce (light) with some lime juice to taste and pour over the pile and then put a little pepper.
Do up the parcel so its sealed and put it into a preheated 180 degree oven. Cook for about 30 minutes.
Yummy, fresh, healthy and very tasty. You can swap the pork for chicken but make sure its only about 5cm thick or it won't cook.
baby carrots are my fav. you can pair it with hummus or fat free ranch dressing
everyone says nuts...
but i look at the nutritional information and am like "whoa!" when i see the calories and fat in each pack!!!
I love getting out the skillet and making a sandwich like this:
2 slices of bread (light or regular, whatever you fancy)
1/2 a small banana
1 tbsp of apple butter
Spread the apple butter on 1 slice of bread. Put the bread on the skillet over medium heat and wait until the bottoms are slightly darker. Cut the banana into slices and put them on the skillet, flipping frequently to prevent burning. Take the bread off, put the banana slices on the piece of bread without the apple butter. Put both pieces together and you have a delicious, nutritious addition to a meal or a snack.
When I make it, it comes out to be 120-130 calories for the sandwich. You could easily make your own version of this maybe with PB or fruit preserves instead. I use a skillet for the bread because I really hate toasters...
Anewme- that may be true, but keep in mind that these are one of the best sources of healthy fats that our bodies need. I've got Emeral Cocoa Roast almonds that have a delightful chocolate flavor with 150 calories, 13 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 1 gram of sugar per ounce. Yum.
celery and fresh salsa.
baby carrots and humous
plate of apple pieces and grapes
unfortunatly, cheap and healthy often doesnt go together

True, especially when your favorite fruit and veggies are out of season. A good 20 bucks of my grocery bill probably consists of them. Lasts like a week.
My favorite for when I have a sweet tooth is to get a reduced-fat graham cracker, do a thin layer of fat-free cream cheese, then a thin layer of fat-free whipped cream, and top with just a few droplets of reduced sugar chocolate syrup. Tastes enough like a cheesecake type snack to satisfy a nagging sweet tooth without harming your daily calorie count (also really cheap compared to those silly little 100 calorie dessert packs!).
I like a granny smith apple with one T of Better n' Peanut butter. Don't ask me why. I wasn't to crazy about PB, but now I can have a nutritious snack. Great for the digestion too. An apple a day keeps the x-lax away. (Don't get your panties in a bunch--I don't use the stuff).
Laughing Cow Garlic&Herb light spread on a 100 cal english muffin- 135 Cals
Hummus with veggies
Roasted Chickpeas

I used to think the same. But the fat is healthy in nuts. What I do is eat 1 apple - 90 cals, with 24g almonds - 140ish cals. Pretty much take a bite of apple and add in two almonds. It's so damn good!! And I feel more full then eating nuts alone cause whats a handful going to really do to fill up. Avocado and egg whites is another pairing to get in more healthy fats but make it more filling.
i've seen this idea several times, and i've finally tried it.. the whole "baked" apple idea.. at sam's slub they sell 3lb bags i believe of the sliced apples- I'm sure its cheaper to buy regular apples, and to cut them up but this is so convenient- the apples are like 60 cal for 5oz which is about 12-15 sliced apples, and i sprinkle just 1 tbsp of cinnamon sugar(15 cal) and heat it up in the microwave- it tastes so good and its only 75 cal total- much more filling and much tastier than most of those 100 cal snacks out there!
