Healthy Amount of Carbs?
Hey everyone!
I am struggling with my daily food analysis and was hoping to get some advice.
I seem to be very high in carbs, from 50%-60% a day. None of this comes from processed carbs and it is all from fruits (I have a fruit salad for lunch every day) and veggies.
Is this amount too high? If so, what are some low carb, healthy, non processed foods I can eat?
Some details: I'm 24, currently 161 lbs... 1600 calorie a day diet with 60 minutes gym cardio weekdays and walking/hiking on weekends.
50%-60% is normal. You're fine. :D
You're eating between 800 and 960 calories a day from a fruit salad and 'veggies'? Must be a big salad.
there is not specific % that your carbs need to be in for you to be healthy, as long as you're getting enough fat and protein you're fine.
Thanks guys!! It is a LOT of fruits and veggies... I feel like since I just started really calorie counting that I need to be super cautious with what I eat... I'm also a horrific chef with no culinary imagination so it complicates things even further.
Do you eat breads, pastas, rices... things like that? That also contributes to your percentage of carbs... as I am sure you already know - if you are eating these things, I hope you're making sure they have 3 grams of fiber or MORE per serving with no added fillers like partially hydrogenated oils and added sugars.
But if you are just eating fruits & veggies - then good job getting a fare amount! Antioxidants and vitamins/minerals are very important to our bodies!
It's normal to get between 40 and 65% of your calories from carbohydrates. But make sure you're getting a good mix of different ones. Fruit and vegetables are a good choice, obviously but don't forget grains, nuts, seeds, and the entire pulses/legumes family.... they've all got lots going for them nutritionally.
