Healthy eating rubbing off on my kids!
I am proud of me! Using calorie count, I have lost 30 pounds and am now at my goal weight. When I made the switch to healthy eating, I knew that I would need to be very careful about the attitude with which I went about it and the things that I said, because I have an 11 year old son and an 8 year old daughter.
I was very careful to not make bad comments about my weight, even on days when I didn't feel so pretty, and I made sure to talk about how I needed to make sure I got enough fuel to keep me bright eyed and bushy tailed. When asked why I wouldn't drink regular coke, I said that it doesn't provide any nutrition for my body, and when they wanted to eat a gazillion pounds of candy, I said the same thing-- it tastes good, but it fills you up without giving your body any of the good fuel it needs.
Well, I am so very excited to say that instead of begging for popsicles and suckers, my kids are wanting to know if they can please please have a grapefruit if they eat all their dinner! Or during that day, I hear, "I'm hungry! Can I have some blackberries?!" I didn't do anything to cause this change except to enjoy these things myself, in front of them, and to make healthy snacks readily available. Plus we aren't really stocking junk food around the house, except for my man's stash, up in the top cabinet. But I really think they would choose a grapefruit over a bag of potato chips! YAY!
Wow! - that's great!!
Oh my goodness! That gives me hope! Especially if it means my man can keep is junk food stash.
Wow thats fantastic! I'm going to try that one... only if my daughter wants sweets and treats I tell her to buy them herself, BUT if she opts for something from the health food store, and chooses something healthy then I'll pay. I usually end up saying things like 'look at all the rubbish in that, you sure yyou want to eat it?' Positivity must be the key to change!
Unfortunately, I live with my mother, and she has bags of crisps lying around, and lets my girl eat them too, but will always refer her to me first so that I'm the one saying no. On the upside, there is always a stash of fruit readily available that she always helps herself to.
A trick I did learn from my mum, is that she has after dinner chocolate. So we do have a small amount of choc as our treat for the day and don't feel deprived.
