As Healthy As Fast Food Can Get

Quote  |  Reply

I understand fast food is a swear word among dieters, but sometimes it's just inevitable in our busy lives.

I was wondering what others choose off the menu when they can't avoid ordering something quick and easy.  What are some of the "healthier" options at various fast food restaurants?

uuum...pintos and cheese fresco style at taco bell. a hard taco with beans instead of meat and fresco style.

from panda express--steamed veggies and white rice with their eggplant tofu and soup

from del taco--beans and cheese burrito, no cheese, add lettuce

from any sandwich shop--whole wheat bread, no mayo, mustard, veggies, and either roast beef, turkey, or lean ham for the meat eaters

from a burger place--small child size burger, no cheese, if you're really hungry order two but only eat one bun, add a side salad and only use half the low fat dressing. or grilled chicken sandwich no mayo and a side salad

at a dessert place--a small plain ice cream [ice cream cone from mcdonalds] or better yet, sherbet/sorbert and a side of fruit [at a sit down restaurant]

at a pastry place--a scooped out bagel with lowfat cream cheese or a bran muffin

hope this helps

i haven't gotten fast food in forever, but mcdonalds has some little wraps of grilled chicken and such that are good and not bad on calories (forgot the number) and a small french fries is like 200 calories.  i also tagged this post a while back: http://caloriecount.about.com/healthiest-fast -food-ft99058

I like a baked potato and caesar side salad from Wendy's in a pinch.  The sour cream with the potato is lowfat and  I only use about 1/3 of the dressing they provide for the salad.

Wendy's used to have an awesome spinach chicken salad with a really good low fat dressing.  I'm hoping that will come back.  I liked their pitas too, but they also went away.

Wendy's oriental chicken salad - leave off the noodles and nuts and ask for fat free french instead of the seaseme dressing.  The whole thing will run you about 200 cals with 1/2 packet of dressing.

I always get veggie wraps from the Subway down the street from where I live, its one of the few that I've seen with a drivethrough :P.

Cucumber, olive, tomato, spinach, onion, jalapenos, carrots, pepper, vinegar, and mustard all wrapped up for me!  They have a veggie pattie that I like to throw on now and then.  :P

I LOVE this site:  http://www.fatcalories.com/

It has pulled all the calorie/fat counts from all the major fast food chains and put them in a handy search engine where you can sort by total cal, fat cals, carbs, cholesterol, etc.

So you can check off you favorite chains, and make informed decisions from there.

Sonic has premium grilled chicken sandwiches with whole wheat buns. They will also put whole wheat buns on their regular burgers if you ask.
