Healthy, filling lunches

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone... so i have lost 21 lbs so far - super exciting, but i seem to have stalled out for couple weeks.

My problem....i had started the year with Lean Cuisines (on sale from shop rite) but now have run out.  I am looking for good tasting, filling lunch recipes

I usually have small snack at lunch also.  I try to keep the main meal to 300-330 calories.

Any suggestions?

I keep frozen veggies on hand for lunches. Pop them in the microwave, and pair them with some sort of protein. They are filling, and super low cal. For protein I like fat free vegetarian canned refried beans. They have lots of fiber and protein and you can put some low fat cheddar, light sour cream and salsa on top. Or have a couple lunch meat and cheese roll-ups. Also good for lunches are salads, top with beans and canned chicken or tuna for protein.

thanks - i like the frozen veggie idea!

1 La tortilla factory wrap-50 cals

1 serving turkey lunch meat-50 cals

lettuce/tomato-5 cals

1 wedge laughing cow cheese-35 cals

1tbsb guacamole-25 cals

That totals 165 cals, then throw in some Special k crackers for 90 and you have an awesome 255 cal filling lunch

Turkey wraps

Hearty Vegtable soups (Progresso makes a few light ones)

sandwiches are always good too. I use nature's own sugar free whole grain bread. It's only 50 cals per slice. add some lunch meat, tomato, and lettuce, plus a piece of fruit, and you should still be safely under 300.

even more filling than crackers is popcorn. a lot of brands make 100 calorie bags. yummm.

two slices with of whole grain bread with peanut butter and honey and a banana. Great lunch for me especially since i run an hour or so after lunch.

I normally eat soup.. for around 140-220 cals (depending on the soup)

I don't eat bread with it as i don't eat much bread anyway and i get full up from soup.

I then normally have a bit of fruit or a hot choccy with it :)

mmm that sound yummy :P gonna have to do that

Skip the frozen crap, it's got soo much salt!

Here is what I do.  On Sunday, I make either...

1. A big pot of bean or lentil soup AND a big container of a vinegar based cole slaw, OR

2. A big pot of a cabbage and veggie soup AND a big container of a vinegar based bean and lentil salad.

I measure out one cup of each.  The bean dishes are about 200 calories a cup; the cabbage stuff is about 50-100 calories a cup, so all my lunches are about 300 calories and I'm SUPER full because beans have lots of protein, veggies, especially cabbage, and beans have lots of fiber, and soups and veggies have lots of water.  I keep them in the fridge and enjoy them all week long.  Also if I don't feel like cooking I can have them for dinner too!

green giant healthy weight steamer packs. they are amazing. i eat one at least 2x a week. nothing but veggies and hardly any seasoning. i pair them with baked cod or salmon from the downstairs cafe at work. today i brought a spinach salad with me, and instead of doing something normal, i put some shredded crab on it....MMMM. :)
