Healthy foods you didn't think you'd like, but do
I had oatmeal this morning for the first time since I used to go camping with my dad in middle school and realized I like it a lot! Not only that, but even with a little brown sugar, it's low-cal and highly nutritious. I used to hate oatmeal, so this was a big surprise for me, and I'm wondering if anyone else has a food they discovered through their weight loss efforts that turned out to be delicious once they gave it a (first or second) chance.
Collard greens and kale. I used to hate this stuff when I was a kid, but now I could eat it a couple of times a week.
Brussel Sprouts!!! I had never had them til about a year ago (they just seemed wrong) and now I can't get enough of them. And spinach, I eat about 5lbs a week. LOL Who knew!
Fresh squeezed vegetable juice was a surprise. A friend lent me her juicer and I just made beet, carrot, apple, ginger juice with some lemon. Very very good! And so good for you.
courgettes and aubergine (eggplant?)
Have to be cooked right though
Salmon.
I haaatteeedd fish when i was younger and swore to never ever eat it again.
then one day i read how amazing fish was for you, so i said, hey why not and gave it a shot. HOLY CRAP ITS AMAZING. hahaha :D
I second the oatmeal and brown sugar, and I'll add grapefruit. I used to watch my mom eat tons of it with her grapefruit cleansing diets when I was younger and I couldn't stand the stuff. Now I love it! It's a staple.
radishes and okra
Oh wow, there are so many - I was incredibly unadventurous palate-wise until the past couple of years.
Cauliflower, for one. Asparagus, when it's cooked right (which I haven't figured out yet). Pineapple. Any kind of nut besides peanuts and pecans I wouldn't try until a couple of years ago when my mother-in-law gave me a five pound box of cashews (Wow, thanks, MIL...)
Broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, watermelon, oatmeal, turkey, tuna.
Apples. For some reason I've always thought I didn't like apples, but I bought some last week at the store anyways. Turns out, I love 'em! I still don't care for the peel, but that's alright.
Soy milk - I avoided it and used to quote Lewis Black. There is no such thing as soy milk.... only soy juuuuuuice. But they don't call it that because just the thought of soy juice makes you start to GAG a little at the back of your throat.
But the thing is I'd only ever tried the "Silk" brand... and it just tasted like something thin and sweetened and overpoweringly artificial flavored (same with Rice Dreams). Then when I was at Trader Joe's, and stopped off for one of the free little mini-cups of coffee, the only thing they had for creamer was a box of their 100% organic, unflavored soy milk. And it was the best substitute for cream I'd ever had in my coffee!
It's weird how much just plain old soy milk tastes like MOO COW MILK to me, only a little richer. I tried it on cereal that same day, and it was delicious to me - can't stand Silk on cereal (too sweet). But plain old soy milk? Yes!
I just keep forgetting to buy it.
