I am OBSESSED with peanut butter. It's amazing with almost any fruit or vegetable (I think) as well as on bread and rice cakes or just on a spoon! I have to be careful, because it can be a binge-trigger for me, but it also works well as a protein boost, since I'm not big on meat and beans sometimes. I want to try other nut butters too, because I've heard they're good for you without so much oil. Thoughts?

try soy nut butter. it is absolutely amazing, haha. it's less oily yeah, has more texture, and in my opinion more taste.

I am def. going to trader joes to get some soynut butter. I really like their little mini pitas too. They are like the size of a small sand dollar and they are great for the whole hummus or soybutter dipping idea.

Those sound like great snacks! I also like edamame (green soybeans). When I was trying not to restrict they made a great snack because they're ridiculously good for you. But they're also yummy and so easy to snack on that I could *add* them to my diet, not replace something else.

You can get them frozen, either shelled (easier if you're taking them with you somewhere) or in the pod. Then just thaw them. I sometimes pack a 1 cup container of them for a portable mid afternoon snack.

They're often served with a lot of salt, but if you're feeling bloaty you might want to substitute low sodium soy sauce or eat them plain.

hmm, thought I'd bump this one up too as I've been craving some new ideas... How about a peanut butter and banana sandwich, maybe with honey? Trader joes sells Dark chocolate covered soy beans... tempting....
Yummy dark chocolate soy beans??? I had baked wheat pita today cut up in triangles with homemade hummus...definitely amazing. I wrapped turkey up in between and then dipped!
Animal crackers dunked in chicken noodle soup....I was careful not to drowned the little animals!!!

ww bread with soy cheese on it toasted in the oven for a few minutes--mmm (:

Never thought of soy cheese? I actually went to Trader Joes and bought salmon patties so I think they would be great for an easy and quick snack/meal with the soy cheese on a ww bun and veggies...what do you guys think?

i don't eat meat myself but that sounds really good!

ahh just a bit of an update--i had fries for the first time in two years tonight. not healthy i know, but i didn't feel guilty or anything.

I am absolutely ecstatic that you had fries ewwxroflzz...that is so awesome...I can't wait for that moment...I feel the urge coming on. Are you at the point where you are at a healthy weight and you are at maintanence...I am so confused about this trying to recover thing and all. I want to eat healthy but I do miss a few unhealthy things! I had biscotti today dipped in my coffee!!
nah i still have a bmi of 15.7.. :/ i gained a half pound though, but it might be water. i'm gradually adding in stuff i used to not allow myself, like pudding (:
Pudding with vanilla waffers is a great snack. I am guessing peanut butter would work too...

I am thinking about putting together some sweet potato fries ...baking them, but has anyone had them? I heard they were delish, not soo sure?
Okay so is the instant oatmeal (sugar free) kind a healthy snack with added almonds and cinnamon? I never really knew the difference of ingredients between the instant and the oat kind. I know that the oats are better but they take longer, so is the instant still okay? I just love a good ole bowl of oatmeal on a cold winter morning!
i eat the instant stuff sometimes. almonds and cinnamon sounds great (: i don't see why it could be bad.
Any ideas on what healthy snacks are good on the go? I know apples and bars are great but I have no time inbetween classes and I really should be eating frequently so....any suggestions of some snacks I could take with me in my bag other than pretzels or cereal?
you could always put some nuts in a bag. i found that when i eat nuts before class i have WAY better concentration because of the omega-3's. also, quaker oats makes some caramel whole wheat rice cakes that are SOOOOO GOOD, those are easy to take with you.
Yay for Lindsey getting stickied! And I am SO glad because I come to this thread all the time for food ideas! Well, I just put some peanut butter on some WASA bread crackers (it's like a giant, swedish, cracker... sort of similar to those AK mak ones but heartier) and then put banana's and chocolate chips on top, popped them under the broiler for about a minute and let me tell ya, it was killer!
i like lightly salted cucumber slices. i'm trying to eat more veggies, so i think i'll chop up some broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized pieces and keep them in a seperate bag for convenient snacking, and i'm gonna dip them in this garden-vegetable hummus.

Yumm...the WASA crackers sound great for pb or for cheese or hummus spread. I also might try the salted cucumber although I am trying to stay away from too much sodium, but hummus on the veggies sounds good too...

So I just got back from my nutritionist today and she said that whatever snacks you have throughout the day should be paired up with the right amount of protein/fat/and carbs. So if you have an apple, try adding pb for protein and if you are having yogurt, try adding nuts for protein. I hope this helps everyone to come up with great combos....here a few off of the list that she gave me...

2 celery sticks with 2 Tbsp. of Peanut butter (206)

2 Fig Newtons and 1 cup of milk (220)

I cup of raw veggies and 1/4 cup of hummus (160)

String cheese and a 6" ww tortilla (150)

1 applesauce pack and 2 graham crackers (110)

1 yogurt and 1 piece of fruit (260)

2 cups of popcorn and a box of raisns (145)

1 cup of fruit salad and 5 ww crackers (160)

1 hard boiled egg and 8 ww crackers (230)

1 packet of oatmeal and 1 oz of almonds (270)

1 slice of ww bread and 3 oz of tuna (170)

1 cup of lentil or bean soup and a corn tortilla (170)
