Is this a healthy method to help me lose weight?

Okay, I'm a 16 year old girl, I'm 5' 4" and I weigh about 170lb, which makes me very overweight, but not quite obese. I know why I gain weight: because I eat too much and dont get enough exercise. The place where I live has very few exercise clubs, and I've tried a couple but not really enjoyed them. However, I'm moving to Canada in mid September and I'm going to join a boxing club. About 2 weeks ago, I started an 1100 calorie a day diet, and I stopped eating junk food and drank more water. I haven't really noticed a change in my weight, though a couple of people have said I look thinner. Is 1100 calories a day healthy, or should I be eating more or less? I don't exercise, just do some walking so could I get away with eating less, and should I eat more when I start boxing?

aim for 1450 or 1500. 1100 is crash dieting, if you want to lose weight, not binge and keep off the weight its important you eat more.and maybe do 1 hr walking a day or anything to get moving.

Start with this link and enter your stats... http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html   Read off the 'Daily Requirements' number that matches your level of activity most closely.  NB.. even if you don't get all that much formal exercise, chances are you'd still qualify as 'low activity'.

If you deduct about 700 from that number, that's a good start-point for weight-loss.  It works out at about 1700-1800 in your case.  Aim to get that number of calories from good, wholesome foods like vegetables, grains, lean meat/fish, eggs, oils, fruit etc, eat regularly (don't skip breakfast, for example) and be as active as you can in your daily life.  You should lose weight quite steadily at the rate of a pound or two each week.

If you do join a boxing club and your activity goes up a lot, redo the calculation and increase your intake.  Good luck
