healthy peanut butter suggestions?
I'm sure I saw this topic somewhere in the forums, but...
I finally ran out of Skippy, and I'm ready to explore healthier peanut butter options.
Anyone have any suggestions?
if you have the time, make your own. just (optional) dry roast nuts in either the oven or stove top and put it in a food processor. if it is too thick just drizzle a little peanut or canola oil to make it smoother. because there are no chemicals the oil can separate, not a big deal.
Healthy = 100% no added shizz PB. Any brand. My boyf (who is junk fooa holic) likes this better than 'skippy' I dont, i like my faker stuff :(
Low cal - fat reduces versions. Can add water/milk and warm to make it go futher. If in the US try PB2. You lucky ducks.
Hmm, powdered peanut butter. Very weird. If it tastes good, I guess I could try it.
The Healthy Balance stuff is god awful!!!
I switched to low sodium Jif a few months back and its just as good as regular pb
you can get it salted or unsalted. i get mine salted, i'm not really worried about this. what i do worry about is a peanut butter where the oil doesn't rise to the top of the jar. it's supposed to do this, and makes me question what jiffy, etc. puts in there to make this from not happening? anyway, get something that says old fashioned, natural, etc., and you will be fine.
and before opening the natural stuff for the 1st time, store it in cupboard upside down. helps to mix the oil on the top with the rest of the peanut butter, way easier than trying to mix together with a spoon.
Oh, and although it only has 4 grams of protein per 2 tbsp as opposed to 6 for regular creamy peanut butter, you can do the math.. for 200 calories of Better'n Peanut Butter, you can have 8 grams of protein. mmhmm
another vote for pb2. 2 tablespoons is 54 calories.
you get over the fact that its powder. you add a tablespoon of water or milk into it to make it peanutbutter. it's good, trust me :)
you can find it at www.bellplantation.com
take a weight watchers vanilla yogurt and mix in 2 or 3 tbs peanutbutter (I do 2). I use that on sandwiches, and its awesome as a dip for veggies and apples!!
I like to take peanuts and grind my own peanut butter. Some stores like Molly Stones and some health food stores have a grinder (like a coffee grinder) where you can do just this at the store.
It is only peanuts so no added fat or other things.
And, its good.
