healthy peanut butter suggestions?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm sure I saw this topic somewhere in the forums, but...

I finally ran out of Skippy, and I'm ready to explore healthier peanut butter options.

Anyone have any suggestions?

i dont know of any brand names o pb because i really like jiff and a generic brand of "natural" pb that boasts only peanuts and oil.

if you have the time, make your own.  just (optional) dry roast nuts in either the oven or stove top  and put it in a food processor.  if it is too thick just drizzle a little peanut or canola oil to make it smoother.  because there are no chemicals the oil can separate, not a big deal.
If you want to experiment with something a little different try PB2 (powdered peanut butter, or just ground peanuts to which you add water instead of oil) which are on bellplantation.com

smart balance now has peanut butter fortified with omega3's and omega 6
Healthy or low cal
Healthy = 100% no added shizz PB. Any brand. My boyf (who is junk fooa holic) likes this better than 'skippy' I dont, i like my faker stuff :(
Low cal - fat reduces versions. Can add water/milk and warm to make it go futher. If in the US try PB2. You lucky ducks.

Hmm, powdered peanut butter.  Very weird.  If it tastes good, I guess I could try it.

PB2!!!!!!!! once i got over the whole 'powdered peanut butter' thing... i was able to enjoy it everyday :) delicious!!
smuckers organic creamy or chunky peanut butter are delicious/nutritious

The Healthy Balance stuff is god awful!!!

I switched to low sodium Jif a few months back and its just as good as regular pb

A few stores have grinders filled with peanuts and you just grind some out into a container. I think they are roasted, but have no salt. Anyway I like my pb real, just peanuts made into peanut butter. Yumm. Another good thing is that I can just get a small amount so I don't worry about pigging out on it.
better n' peanut butter is ersatz PB, that after taking me back a bit, tastes like decent pb. It has 1/2 the calories of pb and 20% of the fat. I like it for a taste of pb without the calorie load.
"teddy" peanut butter is awesome, yum yum...

you can get it salted or unsalted. i get mine salted, i'm not really worried about this. what i do worry about is a peanut butter where the oil doesn't rise to the top of the jar. it's supposed to do this, and makes me question what jiffy, etc. puts in there to make this from not happening? anyway, get something that says old fashioned, natural, etc., and you will be fine.

and before opening the natural stuff for the 1st time, store it in cupboard upside down. helps to mix the oil on the top with the rest of the peanut butter, way easier than trying to mix together with a spoon.
I just got a jar of Better'n Peanut Butter today, and it's AWESOME! I only really need a tbsp or less, and one tbsp is only 50 calories. It's got kind of a coffee-ish undertone in its taste I think.. but it's soooo creamy and smooth and amazing. Ate it on homemade pita chips. It's looovely.

Oh, and although it only has 4 grams of protein per 2 tbsp as opposed to 6 for regular creamy peanut butter, you can do the math.. for 200 calories of Better'n Peanut Butter, you can have 8 grams of protein. mmhmm
I love cashew butter.... I have to have it everyday!
oh, and how about almond butter? and apple butter?! yummyyummyyummy!!!

I usually go for organic peanut butter.  It usually contains less calories, 1/5th the sodium, and other bad stuff.  Im not an organic freak.. but i do find that most organic foods in a can tend to be lower in calories/fat/sodium.

another vote for pb2. 2 tablespoons is 54 calories.

you get over the fact that its powder. you add a tablespoon of water or milk into it to make it peanutbutter. it's good, trust me :)

you can find it at www.bellplantation.com ;

has anyone had both pb2 and better n peanut butter? im a peanut butter fanatic, and well i just got better n peanut butter... and it just doesnt seem to be doing it for me... so i was thinking about getting the pb2 but having to order 4 jars at once sounds scary (bc of my miss with the better n peanut butter)... any thoughts/suggestions??
ok this might sound wierd, but I love it and so does my 2 year old!

take a weight watchers vanilla yogurt and mix in 2 or 3 tbs peanutbutter (I do 2).  I use that on sandwiches, and its awesome as a dip for veggies and apples!!

I like to take peanuts and grind my own peanut butter.  Some stores like Molly Stones and some health food stores have a grinder (like a coffee grinder) where you can do just this at the store.

It is only peanuts so no added fat or other things.

And, its good.

Bebop

I actually prefer soy nut butter- some people balk at it but I find it to be less oily with a better texture. There's the IM Healthy kind and Trader Joe's has a store brand.
