Some healthy very portable snacks?

Quote  |  Reply

I have breakfast very early so I get hungry around 10am but I have classes till 1pm and no time for lunch and most of my professors dont like food in class.

What is some thing I can take with me so help keep me sharp that wont make any mess? Ive tried the 100 cal. packs but they have no nutrients and granola bars crumble, fruit is an obvious no.

Suggestions?

LUNA bars!
Celery With peanut butter and raisins on top..Yummy :)

nice  mix of fat, carbs and protein.
what's wrong with a banana or apple? pretty portable if you ask me!

I <3 clif bars

what about an ounce of nuts? just enough to ward off feeling hungry, and good brainpower? i love walnuts, almonds, cashews, etc...
  • cut up fruit (or veggies) in sandwich bags
  • grapes
  • lowfat string cheese (individual packaged ones will last a couple hours unrefrigerated)
  • nuts
  • edamame
  • fruit leathers

What about bananas? They are relatively no mess.

KIND fruit and nut bars are delicious.

I carry Silk drink boxes around with me.

there are silk drink boxes??? why did i not know this?!?
Yes! I get them from Whole Foods in packs of 18- the Very Vanilla is 16 bucks and the Vanilla is 14. Sometimes they go on sale, too. I love them.

Make your own brownies or muffins.

Black bean brownies or maybe orange cranberry with white pinto beans.  They're pretty good tasting, healthy and very portable.

Make a cheese sandwich--I used to make one with 2 slices of light whole wheat bread and a fat free American single (<100 Calories!) but I'm sure you can spice it up a bit : )

I also found some "Clif Zbars" that are made for kids.  Not too crumbly and only 120/130 calories in one (chocolate tastes like a no bake cookie!!).  Also, if you take an extra sandwich bag with you you can put a banana peel inside it when you're done and you won't get the banana goo all over your desk/hands/notes.

I keep sugar-free chocolate puddings in my desk, also nuts, bars, etc...

My fave - Instant sugar-free or plain oatmeal packs are filling and nutritional. If on the go order a cup of hot water at the coffee kiosk (if you have your own mug its free, some might charge a nominal fee for the cup) and eat on the way to class. If you add more water for thinner oatmeal its drinkable and you dont need a spoon. Shove a napkin in your mug to avoid any dripping in your pack until you have time to rinse.

For Business Travelers:  SF Oatmeal packs are also a great travel companion (I also pack splenda, cinnamon and plastic spoons in a large ziplock), just heat water in your coffee maker. I will also pack or purchase apples and bananas to keep in my room. Eat before you leave the room to avoid temptation at the "continental" aka pastry buffets common at business meetings, have a piece of fruit and drink a bottle of water before lunch or dinner to curb appetite when you dont have to option to choose the menu. Makes it easier to avoid bad choices/ turn down desert.

smwhipple,

Can you please share your brownie and muffin recipes and nutritional info (if you have it). Sounds very interesting and a great way to incorporate a chewy desert.

I forgot to mention the easiest - PB&J!

I use a low-sugar/ low-fat peanut butter and low sugar jam on whole wheat bread (sugarfrees I've tried are disgusting and I refuse to eat something that doesnt taste good for the sake of dieting).

I use "natures own" double fiber - only one WW point for 2 slices. I cut the sandwich into quaters and put in a baggie. This portable snack is great for airplanes, or backpacks.

carrots are a good option to keep your stomach full.

have you tried the 90 cal Chewy granola bars? they're not really crumbly.
